When I was a kid I made them with my Dad. The first used a "cat's whisker" to change locations on the crystal.
Later we upgraded to a crystal set with a diode. As I recacall we wrapped copper wire around a tube (empty toilet paper roll) and twisted the wire at intervals. A wire was connected to a medical forceps (Dad was a combat medic) with the other end into the "circuit." The antenna consisted of multiple wires running back and forth on 2" plastic cylinders at each end of the ceiling. I have no idea how it worked but as a kid growing up in Detroit it was a source of many hours of enjoyment.
When in the US Army (cinematographer) I used to go on manuevers with the Brits in Germany. They have used this same pic on one of their Facebook pages. Those captions are not as complimentary.
This one is rated a funny "G."
I had both eyes done in separate surgeries about 7 years ago. It was like when Dorothy opened the door after her house crashes and everything goes from sepia to color.
My eyes were really bad & doc didn't recommend multifocal. My wife has multifocal and is completely satisfied.
I use readers and a glasses with a moderate correction for driving at night as my depth of field isn't good in low light.
One other thing I've noticed when driving in a convertible is that I need to wear a hat to keep what I can only describe as light flares.
Also when driving in a sedan & strong sun from the left, I need to shade my eye to avoid the distraction. My wife does not have similar issues. All things said very happy.
In Ohio tanks are good for 12 years & then must be inpected & rehabbed prior to returning them for use. There is a date stamped on tanks that gives this info.
I receive calls on both land line and cell. If I'm in the "mood" I will push "1" and string them on just for fun.
I see that you are in Ft. Worth. Hope you and friends are not impacted by the power & water issues.
I got Pfizer. Slightly sore arm the 2nd day. My wife got Moderna, she's younger, different timing. Same results.
I got my 2nd shot yesterday. So far same soreness as first. My wife goes on the 28th. We've heard that 2nd Moderna can have a "kick" but a lot of other things factor into the equation. As stated by others, a day or two of inconvenience/pain beats the alternative.
The University of Detroit's TV studios were located in a former Jewish funeral homes. All the floors were marble which made for smooth dollies.
Generally I just ignore. But when the mood suits me I will answer.
When they ask what kind of car I respond "1920 Packard" followed by "You wasted my time. I'll waste yours."
You've heard the term "deep dive." Every time I scroll for my age I take one.
We have a Whirpool upright circa 1980, which sat unplugged in the basement as a storage unit (paint brushes, etc) since 1987. When Covid started I thought I'd see if it still worked. Fired it up. Went to -7° in 3 hours. A little frosty but I think it always was. Costco bills are higher than ever and now I worry about power failures. A backup generator may be on the horizon.
Brings back some memories and captures a sense of being there.
Will visit periodically just to see new cities. Thanks for sharing.
