How about dismounting the lens, open the aperture and shine a light through from the opposite end, see what a ray of light will encounter. Then do the same with an unbathed lens for an idea of "normal." These photos look good and would likely look even more acceptable without the Kenko.
I upgraded about a year ago from a 60D to the 7Dii and LOVE it. Purchased used of course, upgraded the firmware and at $800 a year ago nothing can touch it in my opinion! A 90D will cost $1,200. My interests cover a wide range and this is a delight (to me) all round.
I like both, but if I had to pick one I'd go with number one because of the feeling of vastness and the sunbeam shadows. To me the sun and shadows add a lot. The grass gives it depth.
Thanks, I keep them in denatured alcohol and I change it about every three months. The soft bodied specimens like beetle larva, I dip into scalding water for about a minute to kill the bacteria in its gut to keep them from turning black and then store them in the alcohol.
The fuzzy ones and moths I keep in a sealed container with mothballs to kill and keep out any scavengers that eat on them.
Cleaning the off the crud and the fatty wax that insects exude is the most time consuming part of the preservation process.
