I agree with Frank that the composition is wonderful: the hill on left and the tree on right make a very nice frame to lead us into this gentle, understated scene.

However, the first thing that caught my eye was the ultra-bright foreground puddles - and coming back for a second look, they still trouble me, lol.

Thank you Linda. The framing is what the composition was all about. That and having the path leading out into open space. The puddles are probably the only part of the image that didn't get any processing. You're right - they are bright, but I knew from experience that almost any attempt to subdue them would have them looking processed (and not in a good way). I like to get my processing in under the radar as much as possible.

A scene wonderfully rendered R.G. The foreground left leading in and right frames to take you all the way through the image, from path, to birds, to home owner in front of the house, then up the river canyon, and out the hilltops to exit, makes for great composition.

Thank you Frank. I think your rambling approach is just right for this kind of image. I think you'd have done well to spot the house, never mind the person out front .

See if this thought pleases you.

Thanks for participating, RB. There's a moodiness in the sky and it looks like there might be some rain coming down the glen.

Thanks for allowing me to make a evening shot out of your nice photo to see what the area would look like toward the end of the day . Tommy

Thank you Tommy. I too enjoy a bit of roamin' in the gloamin' . Your edit whispers of the magic that places like that have at that time of day.

R.G., thanks for letting me play with this beautiful picture!! I put it through the mill, playing with Impressions 2 and then a few NIK filters.

Glad you enjoyed, Angela. Your treatment perfectly suits the atmosphere of the place. I'll probably be posting more shots of Glen Muick showing the weather when it's less co-operative (but more typical).

When I did the merge I selected Auto-tone. The DNG file presumably keeps a record of those adjustments. You've brought out more detail, especially in the clouds. Thanks for contributing, Jim-Pops.

They made a rather awful-looking three-wheeled car and a slightly better looking three-wheeled van.

I dread to think how unstable that open-top three-wheeler must have been. At least Reliant Robins had a roof to protect you in roll-overs .

Yep - that works for me . Lee-Francis must be a bit before my time . Before the download I was expecting Raleigh (not sure if they made cars or not).

A beautiful setting but it looks like it would be rugged walking much of the way!

Thanks for commenting, CW. Some of the paths literally go up the side of the hills and others are much rougher than what you can see here. If you look closely you should be able to see a path going steeply up out of the glen. It's about a quarter of the way in from the left. According to a hillwalker that I met, it's called the Streak of Lightning (or something like that). The white line about a third of the way in from the right is a river.

Glen Muick is my latest discovery. I got this shot of a boathouse and I thought I'd put it up for editing. It's a merge of bracketed shots, so there should be lots of data for pushing and pulling. I'll attach a DNG below the JPG.

I recently discovered that Glen Muick (don't let the name put you off) is a hub for hillwalkers, and it's an access point for a network of paths leading through some of the hills in the Cairngorm area.

The golden one but perhaps toned down and softened just a tad.

Great treatment of a great subject. I too find the vignette a bit too strong, especially in the bottom right corner where it goes against the impression that the lighting is limited to what the meagre light bulb can illuminate.

I get the impression the idea might work well if you used a part of the cliff surface that had a passing resemblance to a face. The way it is it strikes me as being a bit creepily odd.

Forget the fog - it's an excellent portrayal of a ship rolling in heavy seas. The problem I have is that the masts look like they're leaning forward when compared to the body of the ship. And if it was mine I'd soften the sky somewhat.

I think I understand what you're trying to achieve, and I think it's something I witnessed myself once - a small fishing boat emerging from a sharply defined mist bank. The edge of the mist bank was so clearly defined that within the length of the boat it went from being thick mist to being clear air. And to add to the contrast it was a bright sunny day and the edge of the mist bank was glowing. Unfortunately I didn't have any kind of camera with me at the time, but the memory has stayed with me.

My advice would be to not worry too much about the mist bank effect, but if you want to bring that out, have the front of the ship and the area in front of the ship much less misty. As it is there's haze front and back.
