One of the activities I did while in the "Soo" was to take a boat cruise of the Soo locks on the St. Marys River. It was a beautiful day and a great cruise.

You still served our country and we appreciate it! My son was in the first desert war and is a senior Warrant Office in the Army Reserve.
Thank you very much! I was not a "Vietnam Veteran" but a "Vietnam Era Veteran". I served the entire period of the Cold War. You must be rightfully proud of your son.

The Bushplane Museum.

Bushplanes are common in this part of Canada, and this museum contains a collection of many varieties of them. My reunion group ate our final dinner in this museum, after perusing its contents.

The St. Mary's Ukranian Catholic Church. I passed this interesting facility when I went to the big cross in the Oasis of Peace park. It was open, so I entered and respectfully removed my hat and took a few photos of the interior.

Thank you very much! I'm glad you enjoyed it. (Other Sets in progress) I spent 20 years in USAF but never in a combat zone. Was never shot at, but I went where I was told to go.

The Ermatinger Clergue National Historic Site offers a year-round cultural attraction for residents and visitors to Sault Ste. Marie. The Site consists of an interactive Heritage Discovery Centre and two of the oldest stone buildings, located northwest of Toronto - the Ermatinger Old Stone House and the Clergue Blockhouse.

In the summer of 2005 I embarked on an 85-day 11,750-mile auto trip to attend 4 different reunions and visit friends and family in the eastern half of the USA. The first reunion was of USAF folks who had served in Canada (I spent a year at Cartwright Air Station, Labrador in the mid-1960s), and I was in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario for several days. While there I saw some interesting things, and I'm posting several Sets to cover them.

This Set is of general views of the city, mostly near the river.

Roberta Bondar Park. The reunion was centered here.

I’m with you on that comment. Love the churches and cathedrals and want to visit as many as possible, but like you said, on a tour it isn’t as easy. We’ve tried to do trips of half on our own and half tour to allow for both experiences.
I hope you get to hear the organ concert in the Mormon Tabernacle. That will be a great experience.
Well, it didn't happen. on 3 July I fell at my church and broke my left Humerus. Was in hospitals and rehab until the end of September so had to cancel my tour. Bummer! Fortunately, on a tour in 2009 to Salt Lake City I did attend a concert at the Tabernacle, and heard the organ.

I have been a fan of pipe organs and their music since 1966 or thereabouts when I wrote a term paper on the technology and construction of tracker-type pipe organs. While the casings depicted in these fabulous photos are wonderful, most people would be surprised that the pipes shown are often little more than a facade, the real, music-producing pipes, are hidden behind the facade. While the mechanics differ from one to the other, the whole instrument is a marvel of art and technology. Thanks for the photos and y0ou0r interest in these magnificent instruments.

A quick look at my photos taken on my 2019 tour of Kenya, I see that I took 1448 of them with the 18-200 lens and 262 with the 200-500. Many of the 1448 were done at the lower limit of the lens (18mm to 50mm), but all of the ones with the longer lens were at least at the 200mm level and most at the upper limit (500mm). This suggests that it is a good idea to be able to cover both the near and far for photography. I managed it with just 2 lenses (and 2 cameras). I note that Carl S apparently shared this philosophy with me.

If you are interested in what was available in Kenya, my photos are here: https://www.flickr.com/photos/8712554@N02/collections/72157713295140362/. You'd have to check each photo to determine what focal length was used for it.

Hi! Nice to see you. You're very welcome--I like to share. (I was worried about the size of the post, but I usually get away with it because I'm not actually posting the photos, just links to them in my Flickr account, which greatly reduces the memory in UHH involved.)
