The best lens calibration system on the market cost well less than the cheapest “nifty fifty” f1.8 or a CLA for a single lens, and it will accurately calibrate ALL your lenses. Takes 5-10 minutes per lens using FoCal. Now let me ask you a question: would you spend $100 more for an excellent quality lens over a mediocre one? If so, why would you not spend $10 per lens to make the difference between acceptable and sharp as possible?

No need. Would u not agree that if u were getting 30X40 tack sharp prints with a lens out of the box recalibration was unnecessary?

Might be a stupid question but here it goes..I bought my wife a Lumix DMC-FZ1000 and she is asking me what the difference is between the "P" setting and the IA setting (Intelligent Auto). Can someone help me out here?

In P mode the camera is picking the shutter speed and aperture. If you have the ISO set then your camera will select the proper settings.
In Intelligent Auto, which in essence, is like super program mode, the camera ( depending on brand) will choose if flash is needed, sets the ISO, selects aperture and shutter speed depending on the scene and again, camera model. Some models will not allow certain functions in intelligent auto like fill flash.
I am amazed your manual does not describe these settings. Sony pockets spend chapter and verse on these settings and when to use each. Lumix camera's used to come with a detailed manual. I wonder why they stopped? Maybe they have gone the route of putting a more detailed description on the internet.

I'm planning a trip from Washington D.C. to Seattle. I would like to bring my tripod. I did read online that the TSA allows tripods as long as they don't exceed the maximum carry on limits, and will either fit in the overhead or under the seat below. The tripod is the Induro CLT303L. Has anyone had any problems with this? Did your tripod fit into the overhead compartment? Did you have the tripod in a case or not?

What about the camera? I know in the past that the TSA inspector could hand inspect the camera. You removed the lens cap and as long as they could see through it, it's OK. I think sometimes, they will just tell you to put it on the conveyor to run through the X-ray machine.

Easy. What is the length of your tripod collapsed? What is the length of the overhead compartment? Have you called your airline to see what their regulations are? It is not only a TSA question but a particular airline question. I believe it is time for you to OWN the question and make the calls yourself. I would not take the word of anyone on this, are any site to be accurate.

My Sony was damaged inside when I fell at a waterfall. The aperture stays at f/16 when in aperture mode, changes at first in other modes but can't be adjusted. Otherwise seems to be okay
and in looking at the camera no damage seen. I left it at camera repair shop in Atlanta, Ga.
and they find "good bit of damage inside" and quoted $320 repair. Should I repair and can I assume camera will be as good as new? The repair shop has been in business 45 years. Would appreciate opinions, experiences, etc.

I have a Nikkor 70-200 2.8 lens that I had attached a Hoya UV filter. After shooting in a dusty situation the other day, I attempted to remove the filter to clean the lens surface which had quite a bit of dust on it. The filter is stuck on the lens and I can't unscrew it to remove it. Yikes! Any recommendations. I don't want to damage trying to remove the filter.

Personally I would do nothing. Only have Nikon do service. Otherwise DO NOTHING. YOU WILL ONLY MAKE IT WORSE.

On some occasions I like to have 2 cameras when I walk an area to take pictures with a wide on one and extended telephone on the other. It's just a preference to changing lenses in adverse conditions (wind, sand, etc.) and can be fun. The problem is carrying them.

If I use a neck strap on one, then the other may be in my hand or on another neck strap. This can be irritating on my neck after a while and less convenient than I want. And the cameras can bang together.

Years ago I used a "hip side" belt clip with a camera attachment allowing the camera to slip in and out. While it was convenient, the camera mount threaded to the bottom of the camera (film) and in an L-shape pressed against the back of the camera. It was great and very secure. That camera clip, however, covers the screen on the back of today's DSLR's.

I had not thought of looking for a solution until recently when I saw a young female wedding photographer carrying 2 cameras at a wedding. The straps she used were slings. They looked like a great solution.

Amazon had a nice selection and I purchased two. They have quick disconnects and are extremely safe. I used them on a trip to South Florida to the Edison Estate. Quick and easy to use. Even if I only use one camera, there is no more neck pain and I don't have a camera hanging down on my belly. I like these slings and they are very comWahbtable.

Here is the Amazon link for what I purchased and a picture from their page. Tell me what you think.

I know this post will likely trigger the B&H faithful into attack mode, but I wish to tell my brief story.

Earlier this week, I noticed that one of the rubber feet from my Sirui W-2204 Tripod had somehow shaken loose and had been lost...yes...bad on me.

Precisely because numerous UHH members sing the praises of B&H, and I had purchased the tripod from B&H, and after searching their website without success for Sirui replacement rubber feet, I called-in. I spoke to 'Jacob'. I explained my problem and asked if he might know of a compatible replacement rubber foot.

Before I could even take my next breath, he gruffly responded "You'll have to call Sirui." So what was missing here? Well, no inquiry as to whether I had purchased the item from B&H, no mention of "I'm sorry we can't help you with this matter but...."

Just a gruff "You'll have to call Sirui," after which I politely replied "Thank You" and ended the call.

BTW, I called Sirui USA and was told that I must submit a service request on their website complete with serial number and bill of sale/receipt. I located the information, submitted a request and I haven't heard back from them yet.

Despite my displeasure with B&H, I did order another manufacturer's replacement product from B&H and it is now installed.

So I ask, where's the customer service? Where's the courtesy?

TY

Has any of the group had experience with the Bemyar gimbal head? I saw the. On face book and advertising it for $69.99 normally $175.00.
I just purchased the AF Nikon 200-500 lens and was thinking about this to replace my standard head on my tripod.
Thank you for any comments.

My equipment deserves a Wimberley. In my opinion even a $1400 lens deserves the best. Wimberley will lose very little of it's value for resale. And it is as smooth as a babies b _ _ _. Yes, it is that smooth.
