Please don't bite my head off for asking this. I know I am not knowledgeable as you folks are but here it goes..

I have read the advantages of shooting in RAW format and how in post processing it is then processed to your liking. My question is this....If I put a jpeg image in my software and start messing with the controls it also changes the look of the jpeg to where it seems like the jpeg can be changed to ones liking also...?? What am I missing? I shoot both RAW and jpeg and both seem to be processable in post production. Please don't throw the kitchen sink at me.....I am trying to educate myself.

I shoot nothing but JPEG. And I post process with photoshop and lightroom. I create 16X24 show prints. My prints sell well. I have no issues. My exposures are usually spot on so changes in exposure in photoshop is a non issue. As far as color balance, I shoot outside with the sun behind me. Again, no issues with color balance.
Now some folks love RAW, shoot nothing but RAW. And the RAW folks love there results. And, so do I in using JPEG.

I've gotten a gas attack and I'm looking to buy some gear that Abe's of Maine has at a very good price.

I've never bought from them before as I almost always buy from B&H, or eBay, but considering Abe's price and the fact that I can save on NY Sales tax I thought I might give them a try.

Any advice about them ?

Thanks much !

Lille

Don't go near them with a 10,000 foot pole. How is that for advice?

I own the Tamron G2. But is stays in my bag as a long lens backup. I purchased a used first generation Canon 600mm f/4 prime for $4000. The results are night and day better than the Tamron.

I would hope so.

I would love the freedom to"extend" my lens using an add-on teleconverter. I have a Nikon D5600 with 70-300 lens.

It's simply lens construction.

We are planning a trip to Maui and will be renting a condo. I will be taking photo equip and want to know about UGHH recommendations.

I have a RIDER on my ALL STATE home owners insurance policy that covers my photography equipment. It is a separate policy. My agent has a list of all the equipment and serial numbers. Anything that costs over $5000.00 per item must be insured separately.
It is very inexpensive and is well worth the piece of mind it gives me. I also have receipts that have the serial numbers on it.

Since 2005, when I bought my first DSRL, I navigated through some photo editors (Canon DPP, ACDSee,..) and finally I landed with Lightroom. I-ve recently seen some videos on You Tube announcing the end of Photoshop and Lightroom in favor of Capture One. Out of curiositydownloaded the trial version of Capture One 12, but with only 30 days is not enough for me to take the dicision of buying the software(more than U$S 200).
I aprreciate if somebody can tell me what are the great advantages of Capture One over Lightroom and Photoshop.
Thank you in advance.

I want to learn how to shoot in RAW, never done it before. Where is a good place to start how to shoot in Raw?

RIGHT NOW. Just turn your camera to the RAW setting and start.
However, if you do not do any post production, what's the point? In Jpeg you get more images per card and if your exposure is correct, I can manipulate the image in many ways in post.

I am considering adding a Mirrorless Camera for its weight and Video advantages when I travel . I currently have a D750 and a D500 but I find them to large for just travel shots and Video. I was leaning toward the Fujifilm xt3. I have heard good things about it plus it has a good lens line up, at whats seems a fair price for the body and a kit lens of around $1300. I know Sony is a leader in the mirrorless field. I am looking for thoughts and recommendations.

Mirrorless camera's are not THAT MUCH lighter or smaller than what you have.
For me, the true advantage to the mirrorless camera's are the fact that you get exactly the exposure you see in the viewfinder, great in manual shooting. And, fine tuning lenses are a thing of the past.
Other than those two things, I am very happy living with my D500 and D850.

As most external flashes do, my flash takes 4 AA batteries. The problem is, those batteries die out so quickly. Is there a better battery one can get that will replace those 4 AA batteries?

I can not see any downside to that. Since you're buying used, there is no worry about any warrenty issues anyway and one can get excellent deals on Ebay for just a little money. Sounds like a win-win situation to me! Have fun!

Unless he needs to have it serviced, Nikon will not service it nor will they supply parts. If parts are unavailable from private camera repair shops there could be an issue.

I have a Nikon d7000 and a Nikon 300mm f4. What would be a good choice for this ?
As it is, it is a 450mm. What would I get with a 2x ?
Any idea's would be welcome.

Depends on which 300 f4 your talking about, for the older one, you cannot use the TC-14E III, the newer version can handle the TC-14EIII.
As far as using the 2X, they both have AF limitations with the 2X. Auto focus is available only with cameras that offer F8 support. The D7000 does not have this, so, no, you cannot use the 2X and get auto focus. You can do MANUAL focus.
