Had to look up "Roundtail Horned Lizard", never have seen one. Wiki said they live in the western desert states, not in Texas where I've been most of my life.

My spouse and I are taking every precaution we hear about because of being over the big eight oh!
This way we up our chances of being able to look back in 2-3 years and say, "that was overkill!"

Pushups. I’ve increased from being able to do 20 non stop pushups to 50. However, it seems I have plateaued; I’m having trouble getting beyond 50.

Oh wow, I'd settle for the twenty.
A couple years ago I plateaued on the weight machines at the "Y" mostly because my skeletal frame started complaining. Figured backing off was best before something gave way.

Man I feel for you, just had a knee replacement in January. I was immobilized before and now that leg is more flexible than the other. There are some excellent doctors out there, bet you found one. Good Luck!

...You can calculate your maximum heart rate by subtracting your age from 220...

Ok, came up with 140. Since my HR doesn’t get close to that looked up “max exercising heart rate” and found that it should be 55% to 85% of the calculated max rate. So that would be 77 bpm to 119 bpm for me. Therefore since the “arm” cranking gets my hr to 81 and my “leg” cranking gets it to 111 I’m within the proper range. It’s resting bpm is most often in the mid 50s the Apple Watch usually says 53.
Thank you for the comments; they made me think about if I was doing this correctly or not. (In a couple weeks I can slack off a little - my calculated hr will then be 139.)

Favorite exercises as we shelter in place?
I was given a foot/hand cycle machine that uses a magnetic brake to apply resistance. A setting for the hand/shoulder workout at 50% the resistance scale will get my heart rate up to almost double its resting rate and setting it at 90% of the scale for foot/leg exercises will get my heart rate up to a little over double the resting rate. (The easy to accomplish workouts are 15 minutes each.)

... do I really need to dress up below the waist line?

My daughter works at a TV station and once told me the well dressed newscasters would sometimes wear cut-offs, bathing suits, etc. bottoms even when on the air.

It amazes me the ingenuity some of the owners used to modify their equipment to suit their needs. There was not the variety of machinery or money available as is now back then. Had to make due with what you had.
