If it were mine, I would send it in to be repaired and refurbished. There may be internal damage from the impact that is not apparent to the naked eye. With that visible damage the value of the lens has plummeted. Having it repaired and refurbished would restore it's value. The 24-70 is an excellent lens, and well worth repairing.

That’s not hyperbole — just physics. The inverse/square law applies to light, sound, and the entire electromagnetic spectrum: 1/D^2 where D = distance. Sound dissipates as the inverse of the square of the distance. At ten feet, you have 1% of the desired sound you have at one foot from the source. And you also have 100 times as much background noise in the signal, relative to the sound you want... once you turn up the volume (gain) to compensate.

Thank you for clearing that up. Everything makes sense now.

I'd recommend using nothing more than a puff of air from a bulb blower. I never clean mine with anything more than that. If it works, great. If that doesn't dislodge the speck, leave it for now.

Bingo!! There's the best reply of the morning. Three thumbs up.

Received this notification from B&H Camera this morning.

"Keep your Sony a6000 updated to ensure peak performance in all modes. The just released firmware version 3.21 aims to improve stability of AF operation. For details on how to install and update your camera please visit Sony’s Support Page for Windows or Mac." (link for Windows installation is in original post above.)

Congratulations. You won't regret it. My daughter-in-law took that lens on her Nikon D5500 to Africa on a 2-week photo safari and returned with hundreds of beautiful photos. The quality and sharpness of the exposures was just remarkable for a relatively inexpensive zoom lens.

Mine has a lock button that solves the creep problem.

The lock button only works at 18 mm. If you zoom out (lock button off) it is no help.

I have the same lens on my Nikon and love it. Super sharp and a super bargain at that price. The only comment I might have is mine has a bit of "lens creep" when held with lens pointing downward. Easily fixed in 3 seconds with a "lens band" from Amazon for around 5 bucks....or just use a heavy rubber band if necessary. Some owners have the lens creep, others do not have it. In any case, it's an excellent lens and well-worth the price.

Can you post some photos of the cameras and accessories and set a price on them?

Not regular contacts, they re-shape your cornea.

No thanks. I have no desire or need to have my corneas re-shaped.

I have a (expensive to me) Lumix 100-400 lens. It doesn't work for shooting interiors very well so I take it outside a lot. It seemed logical to protect the lens with a filter and I'm in the group that believes clear or UV filters don't screw things up. For months, I couldn't seem to get the sharpness the lens was rumored to produce. One day I took the filter off and my shots got clearer. It may be that lens with it's "extreme" optics does not like clear filters. But, I'm no longer a filter fan.

What brand of filter were you using when you noticed the sharpness falling off?

I would prefer a camera that worked correctly right out of the box. It may work now, but later, who knows. I would send it back and get another one that would work properly right out of the box.

Nikon advises against folks doing their own calibrations, I wonder why that is?

What's that old saying, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."
