Nice photo and acceptably sharp. I noticed when zoomed in that it might be a little soft overall. Considering that you used 1/10" shutter speed, I wonder if mirror bounce might have caused a loss in sharpness. I've read that shutter speeds from about 1/4" to 1/25" can show mirror bounce focus issues if you don't use the mirror lock-up on your camera. Just a thought, but still a very nice shot... Keep 'em coming!

To me, the Christmas Tree appears overly blue. In real life, the tree and its other colors of lights were much more vibrant. Could any one explain what happened and how to fix it, both in-camera to prevent it from happening again, and in post processing? All I have is a jpeg.

I managed to get this corrected image by adjusting the color balance to get the multicolor lights on the tree, then masking it out of everything but the tree. With the mixed light sources, I think that is the best solution. No matter where your camera's color balance is set (auto or manual), it is only going to be correct for part of the image and it would have to be corrected in the other parts...

I've developed a "solution" that handles part of that - differentiating edges from the rest of the petal. My solution uses Topaz Simplify to create a black on white drawing which I create in a new layer, then blend with the original using the Mulitply blending mode, then using the opacity slider until I get just a hint of edge (around 20% or so)....

I think Bob is onto something. I brought out the petal definition significantly using Affinity Photo by adding a B/W layer and changing the blend mode and adjusting the effects of the reds on your shot.

Good luck, and keep 'em coming!

Please submit an example, if you can, and fill in some data on it .... Would you do something like that again, or no?

Thanks, Chris! This was my first (and only) attempt at astrophotography. Kit zoom at 18mm, f/5.6, 15 seconds. I would really like to try again with my new D750, but I keep opting for bed over driving out to the boondocks in the middle of the night...

My hope for a moonset at sunrise photo op was again thwarted when the full moon disappeared behind pink clouds well above the horizon line for the second month in a row. So I used my only shot from December to create these composites.

btw, one benefit to going out for a sunrise/moonset opportunity is then you are... out at sunrise

Please feel free to share your photos and ideas!

Great shots, Linda! I'm still learning, but having fun along the way...

Those lace curtains look very fitting. I can't imagine the time, money and effort that was involved in that project. You captured it quite nicely.

Thanks, dragonfist! I got lucky with the weather and nice sky that day. Only some minor post processing -- I removed an ugly "OPEN" sign that was hung over the wreath on the front door, and I flipped the weather vane on the roof so the dates would be readable. Unfortunately, I left a little noise in the sky around it in the process. Practice, practice, practice...

Speaking of the effort involved, I read an interesting article on the house that explains that it was originally constructed using pegs rather than nails, so it was disassembled, catalogued and reassembled using pegs.
