That 4th B&W is Awesome! Thanks for sharing
Bob, I always used the 1-400 II bare. If I wanted a 1.4 crop I'd just do it in post. I always found 400mm to be more than enough in the field. Prime lenses are different story as I would always use 600mmII with a 2xIII TC and always get super sharp images.
I've since switched to Nikon and sold all my Canon gear. I have some regrets on selling my Canon gear.
One thing about woodpeckers.....it means your tree's infested. Perfect shot Bill!
That big ole boy will be suffocated way before it hits the stomach. Fantastic nature action shots CPO! Few and far between have ever seen something like this. Out of their habitat, but still can hunt down a meal.
4th shot is spectacular! The third and last I would like to see cropped a little more to the center. Just a bit more over. You have some talent!
Very impressive work, keep posting!
Good stuff. Post your shots as a download please. I'd really like to explore them!

I know what you're saying Napa, but after being a Canon DSLR shooter for more than a decade, I found it to be a hard learning curve with the Nikon equipment. You are right with "the proof is in the pudding", but only after much time learning. Thanks for the comment!
Taken with my new Nikon D850 with 70-200mm E lens at 200mm 1/1250sec, f/5, ISO 160
Nikon D850 1/320sec f/8.0, ISO 1000, at 500mm with 200-500mm Nikkor f/5.6E ED
Just got this body and lens and trying to figure out this black beast, as I'm coming from more than a decade of Canon shooting. Nikon wreaking havoc with my brain! Shot a lot of sports over the last week using my Canon brain and was very frustrated. High megapixels are a different animal. Slowly but surely...learning the new body and new reflexes.
This shot is about +2 stops over the Nikon meter.
Just some fun here with these spider pics!
