Looks like EV's are going to be an even bigger problem as they apparently are throw aways after 10 years or so, no one is going to spend $30K to repair a 10 year old car.

You go California, such i***ts, this is the problem when government decides it knows better than free markets.

True estimate, but very misleading when viewed in context of the actual facts. Read the dealer comment in this Snopes investigation:

It is getting close to time for our green herons to head south, but I tried my favorite pond again and two were still around.

Got this one fishing, and also snapping insects off the water plants along the bank.

Here is a big crop of the unfortunate katydid who didn't hide well enough or get out of the way.

I noticed that the heron kept looking up and I found out why when this Osprey came out of his perch in a pine tree, made a pass over the pond, and then flew off. An unexpected and infrequent visitor, but an exciting one for me!

This small city park pond is not much to look at, is much used, and sometimes is trashy and unattractive. Regardless, I've had good luck there, and hopefully for years to come.

A screenshot of your photo inputted to Merlin Bird ID agrees with you: Yellow Warbler.

Glad it recovered and flew off. We have some that crash into our windows here, despite the decals that my wife has applied to our windows...

For anyone interested, it looks like the Flickr Explore gallery is all B&W for 24Aug2022:

https://www.flickr.com/explore/2022/08/24

And another article from TOP, where he really gets into the weeds of his B&W quest. One commenter asks if it is really worth $1200 to get the camera conversion. Good question.

Guys, I have a Sony A7c and want to shoot great B&W (like the old film camera days). I usually shoot in JPEG (X-fine version), and I usually shoot in normal color mode, and then decide to convert to B&W in PhotoShop Elements. I have also tried the B&W setting in Creative Style. In most cases, the results look muddy and boring, not like I got in the old days shooting a Leica and Tri-X. Any suggestions on how to proceed? Thanks in advance.

Mike Johnston, at TheOnlinePhotographer.com, has been on a B&W quest lately, going so far as to consider having a digital camera converted, by technicians who do that sort of thing, so as to only shoot in B&W.

Many of his blog post articles are way over my head, and I haven't done much B&W since the 70's, but I picked this post of his out that you might find helpful:

There is plenty more, too. Just type "monochrome" into the search box of his home page and you'll find probably much more than you want, lol!

This article in Newsweek by WILLIAM M. ARKIN ON 8/17/22 answers some of the questions I've had about the justification and timing of the FBI search of Trump's Mar-a-Logo estate, and some inkling of the extent of Trump's stash and his possible motive and possible use of such information.

An excerpt from the article:

"All official documents, regardless of classification, are required to be returned to the Archives under the P**********l Records Act," one of the officials says. "And surely the FBI was going about its business of retrieving everything."

But it is accurate to think about what was retrieved at Mar-a-Lago as two distinct sets of documents—those that are being openly sought under the P**********l Records Act and those that formed part of Donald Trump's stash.

"What we're talking about here is not just documents that the Archives was seeking to fulfill the provisions of the Act," one of the officials says. "They were also after some number of documents that they considered more sensitive, but also documents that they felt the former president had no intention to return."

The full article is at:

This info is a week old now, and an untold amount of legal wrangling is surely to come. Stay tuned!

A couple of things have intrigued me from my short time in the Army: Hospital corners when making a bed, and the Army way of writing dates.

Hospital corners have gone by the wayside but the date thing remains: Today is 21AUG2022. No ambiguity between the day and the month if they are numerically close to each other.

My file names are pretty long as I use both YYYYMMDD to allow chronological sorting of a file set and the Army way for my personal ease of recognition, separated by a three letter code.

I believe that what you have set is for the camera to take 10 shots in one interval of 20 seconds, with the camera shutter speed of 15 seconds. An impossibility, so it does nothing.

Try turning your setting around: 1x10 rather than 10x1. Ten intervals of 20 seconds each with one shot per interval.

Hope this helps,

Thanks, Marshall. Interesting approach. I’ll have to see if anyone provides a service like that around here. I don’t want to hurt the GBH, just make him feel this pond isn’t worth the hassle.

I'll bet the grandkids would like a border collie pup even more than a koi fish!

Back when we were into disc-dogging sports my wife and I competed against this guy. He turned his well-trained dogs into a good business...

Excellent article, which won't be read, or if read, won't be believed by those who badly need to.

From the article:

"One agent in particular, Tony Ornato, so impressed Trump that he took him out of PPD and gave him a White House staff position. Ornato has since returned to the Secret Service in a senior management position. And in any previous PPD he would have been, and still should be, summarily fired. Such fealty is not only against the spirit of the mission, it is emblematic of Trump’s contamination of the Secret Service and downright frightening."
