In that air operations resumed from that airfield just 48 hours after the missiles shows that the attack did not achieve any strategic objective. So as a practical matter it falls into the 'rearrange the Titanic deck chairs' category. While Trump himself shouldn't be expected to have fully thought out the operation with natively possessed insight, his advisors can be faulted for not assessed all the angles. In any given situation both the strategy and tactics need careful consideration as there will always be consequences, both short and long term. This incident shows the competence of the Trump administration. The last thing to short change is the presumed intelligience of our adversaries.

The missiles were unlikely to close down the airfield. It was a timely gesture to show Russia that the US still has teeth. There is no point in praising or castigating Trump. As a British politician once said, It is curcumstances dear boy, circumstances.

Trouble is, America cannot be isolationist because so many things overseas could affect America. Take. North Korea. They will soon have a nuke and a missile that could reach the West coast of America. As long as America is in NATO Russia.must pose a threat.China could threaten America's interests in the east .Trump is facing reality.E******n promises are all very well but the bombing of Syria was good because America's enemies will seize on any weakness.

[quote=tomcat]Don't get the 3400. I got one for my wife and traded it back in after 1 shooting session. Could not tolerate the skimpy menu system and lack of buttons because I shoot with the big brothers, D750 and D500.[/quote
That is not a sensible statement. It depends entirely what you want from photography. For some folk the D3400 is entirely the right camera. It produces excellent shots with the minimum of effort and is a great stepstone to a more complicated camera and a god learning curve.
If you are a photographer who's spare time is nothing but photography get a more advanced camera but don't knock those for whom the D3400 is ample.
Read Ken Rockwell but I expect you don't think much of him.

Let's face it,we are a dying breed. We love our cameras and live for that great shot but go to any event and there they are, holding up their blessed phones. We give a little sneer as we turn our Nikon to Raw but they are quite satisfied with their results ,the phone has recorded all they want.

Australia was peopled by convicts, mostly lower class many years ago.In those days regional British accents were much stronger. Take the American accent, different in areas,I know. Here I can see glimpse of English West Country and,of course Irish. In Australia there are glimpses of Norfolk and Sussex accents. The derivation of accents is fascinating and much, even Indian h owes the fact of colonial British putting themselves around.

This subject I find very interesting. I shoot a lot of video. I extract my stills from video for clients from the hybrid HD 10 bit from the camcorder. I find the pictures have great detail and great color.
I realized if I was working with an image that I wanted to optimize I would use Raw. I mostly use Photoshop CC and have do shoot raw and jpgs when I do shoot stills.
I find my quick enhancements of jpgs really easier to do in PS. I am a fan of Ken Rockwell. I never really understand why some people have so many issues with him.
He flows with the art and business of imagery and tells you his real thoughts. When he reviewed the hot Nikon D800 against the Canon being the Nikon guy he said damn
the Canon is better. I wanted to get a bridge camera and he said he picked up the Sony RX10 III and haven't put it down for months. His lens reviews are straight forward.
He ups his color saturation while shooting and that seems to be his style that works in selling to companies. Not a favorite on mine. D
With the Nikon D3400 Ken said do not even bother with JPG Fine,Average is good enough.I too am a fan of his.
I am perplexed by the grading color mess in the film (video) You need to be a scientist to get a workflow once you have produced neutral file to launder through many software
options and choose camera settings are numerous. How does this relate to this post. Ken is right about jpgs. I dont want to spend even more time laundering visuals.

Reading up some more to try and get the right answer I read an opinion which made me chuckle. It said ,Raw is an excuse for sloppy shutter work. Everyone has their own opinion and, why not?

In the last few weeks I have read numerous article on Raw versus JPG. Then I took hundreds of pictures in both formats.I knew enthusiasts swear by RAW but I reached a conclusion. For the average amateur JPG Fine is what they should shoot.I have Corel Paint Brush Pro and this gives me tremendous opportunity to manipulate my shots and the average photographer would not be skill full enough to do the same in RAW. I don't need telling all the advantages of RAW and if I were a professional or a semi-professional I would use it.
I know a lot of people do not rate Ken Rockwell but he has the same conclusion.
Moden programmes made by Adobe,Serif and Corel are so good that is all the average shooter needs.
Finally,of course I can get more on my memory card as Raw does use a lot of space.

An interesting fact,After the war Berlin was divided into four zones.Russian.American,Brtish and French.Drunken Russians sometimes entered other zones and made trouble. The British military police beat them up and threw them back but the Alerican military police took a tougher line and sometimes shot them as a deterrent.f

You use the dial on the upper right corner of the back of the body. By turning the dial, both the aperture and shutter speed change. The same dial you use to change the aperture in the A mode. The ISO I set manually, didn't change.
