All so true, and yet he was re-hired. What does that say about the American electorate???

The only time I can recall losing content on a SD card was on a cruise when my camera (a small point and Shoot) was placed in my shirt pocket with a audio playback device. It wiped that card very effectively. Nothing but noise was left. Lesson learned!!!

Obamacare is simply a system designed to generate sufficient funds to pay for the people that never would pay for healthcare themselves. It is actually "wealth redistribution" institutionalized and packaged to be palatable to the citizens. That is the reason that so many things like maternity benefits for the elderly are incorporated in the policy's being offered. They simply will not be used but will still be charged for, which allows the extra money collected to be shifted to the non-payers, who now are effectively provided free benefits. Why go through this charade? Because our government has no money to provide the services and it would not be politically possible to pass the tax laws needed to generate sufficient revenue to pay for the millions of non-payers. I believe that this cobbled together ACA will fail and be replaced by something else, but the probability of that being better for the populace is slim and none.(Too many vested interests) Since WW II, when has our government ever successfully designed and implemented a really successful nationwide program??? The bureaucracy of this country no longer allows it. I think Ike was the last President that achieved a program that was good for the entire country (the Interstate Highway system) and even that has been allowed to deteriorate greatly.

Actually, it matters little who utters a truth, and recent history has certainly validated the fact of Obamas lack of experience and leadership abilities. History is littered with examples of inadequate people being thrust into positions of power only to fail when it came time for the rubber to meet the road. As far as the populace that put him into power; 49% of that population is receiving Welfare, paying no Federal taxes, and is clueless to anything beyond the entertainment industries latest sensation, so why would they not vote for a candidate that was sold as a "Rock Star" who would insure that the State would continue and even increase their freebies. The world has survived these false leaders before and will again, however the problem of the clueless populace is much more serious. Think Roman Empire for example.

The Dems are so focused on "Packing" the courts and NLRB with ultra Libs that they are willing to chance the Repubs having the same tool when they get back in power. Remember, those judges are there for life once appointed and confirmed.
This change is not what our country's Founders envisioned.

I've visited Venice several times while on a cruise. Never had a problem with bad smells, or floods, but there were always major crowds. It is a lovely place to visit but one day will not really afford anything but some nice picture ops. My first visit was for 3 days and was able to devote a full day to touring the near-by islands by motorboat. The rest of the time we explored Venice itself. Expensive, yes, but memorable. We stayed at the Denali which is right on the Grand Canal next to St Marks Square.

Wow! This is a first for me! I find myself fundamentally agreeing with both Tschmath and Ole!

Actually, I've come to realize that Tschmath is a very intelligent and thinking man, though I don't happen to agree with his political views very often. And that's ok.

BUT OLE!?!!??

I think I need another shot of Nicaraguan rum.......

As a frequent traveler in the Islands, may I suggest trying Eclipse Barbados sugar cane rum. Never causes a headache because no molasses is used in the process. Enjoy!

I don't believe we are currently in a competitive market.

Actually, I loosely equate your "competitive market" with my "perfect world".

Actually, the marketplace ALWAYS provides a competitive opportunity if one has something unique to offer. If one is good at his/her specialty, and has a solid record of producing good results (Profits) for their employer, there is a demand for that persons services. Employers make investments in employees, and when times are tougher those investments become even more important to make.

I would hope noone does....certainly not me.

But, that's kind of a cheap shot at the gist of my comments.

In a "perfect world" (and I'm NOT being Socialistic here) the business owner would realize that he would not have a product to sell if it weren't for the people who work for him.

In a "perfect world" he would make a "reasonable" profit and the workers would make a "reasonable" wage.

Please add your own definition for "perfect world", "reasonable profit" and "reasonable wage".

Yes, the owner puts up the capital but the workers put up the labor.

Why can't everyone prosper?
I would hope noone does....certainly not me. br b... (show quote)

I have owned and managed Technical business's for over 50 years. Been through good times and bad, and I can tell you with absolute certainty; a business will survive ONLY if it makes a profit. What is "profit"? It is simply the difference between what it costs to provide the goods and services and what the market will pay for them. Thats it! In "good years" when a business earns a "profit" the owner first puts some of that profit into reserves so the business will be able to survive the "Bad Years" which are inevitable. Then he pays himself with whats left. It is not unusual that when those Bad Years are encountered, and the Reserves have been used up to keep the business and its workers going, the owner has to dig into his personal assets. When those run out he must turn to borrowed funding which he must by necessity put it all on the line and personally guaranty repayment. Obviously, there are no POOR people who are employers. The "System" dictates what is a competitive wage. If the worker is being underpaid according to the marketplace, he will very soon move on, and the employer will have to go through the expense of recruiting and training a replacement...something a employer wants to avoid because it is expensive to go through that exercise, plus an employer of quality people cannot afford to get a reputation of a high turnover rate. What this all means is that in a competitive environment people are paid what their services are worth as determined by the marketplace. Sadly, this of course does NOT hold true for the majority of the government bureaucracy.

Giving money to the "POOR" is a exercise in futility. This country has spent Trillions since the beginning of the "Great Society" programs were started, and we now have more people on the Dole then ever before. Teaching the POOR to support themselves by requiring them to attend vocational training while collecting Welfare would certainly help the problem. The core problem is the Political Parties actually want a totally dependent constituency who will continue to vote them into control; thus the Freebies WILL continue until our Political Hacks are flushed out of the system and replaced by people who actually know how to manage our affairs. Really, how can we expect good results when we hire people that have absolutely no experience in anything except successfully conning their fellow citizens.
When many in the Welfare programs can collect up to 85K per year and NOT hold a regular job, the Welfare Industry will continue to grow. The only thing that will cut it back is actually running out of OPM. It's not a pretty picture.

The phony conflict between the so-called POOR and RICH is a manufactured situation promulgated by the current administration to re-direct attention away from its disastrous policy's. If one would take the time to notice, it is NOT the average Small Business owner that is RICH and getting richer, it is this Government's leaders, and to a great extent the entire class of Government workers that are enriching themselves at the expense of the taxpayers. Obama was a low paid Community Organizer prior to getting aboard the Federal Government gravy train. He and his wife have become multi-millionaires in the past decade, and continue on a daily basis to enrich themselves further, so the railing against the so-called Uber-Rich Businessman is totally misdirected. The average Small-Business owner is being squeezed by taxes, regulations, government mandates and inflationary wage demands to the point where many of us just capitulate and sell out if possible, or if not possible to sell, just shut it down. Follow this trend to its natural conclusion and you will find that the "OPM" which the Government depends upon will eventually dry up, and the engine driving the economy will grind to a stop. As has been said before, "Spreading the Wealth is a fine idea until you run out of other people's money". The USA was once the richest country in the world. It is no longer! We are now the worlds largest debtor that has no possibility of ever paying back its debt. When the rest of the world wakes up to that fact, there will be disastrous ramifications for its population, rich and poor alike. There are many in our country that have read the writing on the wall and decided with their feet by going ex patriot. Our government has taken notice of this trend and responded by quietly passing laws to prevent those leaving from taking their wealth with them (a la NAZI Germany in the late 30's) So much for "the Land of the Free"

The main problem with the "Share the Wealth" idea is it requires taking away (Confiscating) from those that have earned the wealth, to give it to those that have not earned it. When a mugger does it we consider it a crime. When our government does it its considered by the Socialists as enlightened thinking.

I have been extremely satisfied with the Panasonic FZ series of Lumix cameras with the Leica lenses. I have a FZ47 and just purchased a FZ60 for my friend. Combination of long lens, Electronic View Finder and price make it a fine choice. The resulting pix are outstanding !

I have read the referenced editorial and believe much of it is "opinion" and projections that were written prior to the kick-off of the Exchanges. We now know that the Premiums actually being quoted are far more than was anticipated, and the co-pays and deductibles are simply unaffordable for most of the people that are needing coverage. The true facts about ACA will emerge over the next few months, but the initial reports are not encouraging. Just ask yourself; when has the Government ever put a cost efficient program into effect? ACA will be another massive quagmire of fraud and mismanagement which will eventually morph into a totally taxpayer financed "entitlement".
The Government has already run out of funds to run the country and is forced to borrow a very significant amount of the day-to-day expenses so it can only confiscate more of its citizens wealth and keep borrowing more and more from other countries. Through that ever increasing debt those countries are becoming our Masters, for now only noticed subtlely, but eventually that too will change. Has ANYONE asked (and answered) the question can we really afford this ??
