If the front and rear filter surfaces are oerfectly parallel and flat (meaning infinite radius of curvature) and the glass is of uniform composition and its index of refraction is nil and the surfaces are perpendicular to the lens axis, then optically the filter can not alter any property of the lens. Of course, all of these factors are subject to acheivable manufacturing standards; therefore, we have the difference between quality and cheapie.

When it comes to polarization, there is the question as to the degree of source polarization being wavelength dependent which could include reflection surface variations. I'll have look this up to make sure.

On the other hand, if what you see in the viewfinder is sharp enough, then the 'out of focus' might have nothing to do with the filter itself.

Many of the displays I have seen have blinking lights in all kinds of imaginable patterns. So short vs long shutter speeds becomes a matter of taste. Some displays have more or less depth. So large vs small apertures brings in more gotcha. It boils down to taking shots at various settings and keeping the best ones. Would the camera's light meter be a good guide.

FWIW: Dorothea Lange was also commissioned to Photograph the camps. Her work was squashed at the time because she showed the "other side" of internment. It seems there might have been some propaganda involved. Who knew?

Did any of Dorothea's work survive or was it destroyed. Might a Freedom of Information Act application help.

Are you saying that you believe the fresh-water ice in Greenland accumulated after 1421? Do you know how much water that is? (obviously not) Did you look up the estimated sea level rise from melting Greenland? Clearly not, 24 ft shows up in the search results page with no need to click any further. Do you know how many cities of the ancient world would have been under water if Greenland had not had its ice? Again, no.

Glacier Girl, a P-38 Lightning fighter plane crash-landed on the Greenland ice sheet in 1942 and was pulled piece by piece from under 268 feet of ice after only 50 years.

These are reasonable questions that invite other questions. How can we be sure those ancient seacoast cities were not further inland than now 695 years ago. How accurate were longitude and latitude measurements that long ago on ancient maps. It is to noted that the author of "1421" has been criticized.

I keep a UV filter on to keep dust, etc off the lens. Mishaps cleaning crud off a filter are cheap to remedy compared to the same with a lens. But like anything that transmits light to the sensor you want best quality filter glass that you can afford. Filters are also much easier to clean and dry. As for major incident damage, nothing suffices with certainty - due caution is your only guard.

It has been debated in many articles, books and treatices that the Golden Rectange is the shape of natural beauty. I won't go into the details but suffice it to say I agree, the arguments convince. The Golden Rectangle has side such their ratio 1.681.... : 1 , that is - (1 + square root of 5 )/2 This number comes from one of Euclid's propositions. Now 3 by 2 is 1.5:1 or almost the Divine Ratio of which the Golden Rectangle is constructed. The ratio 3:2 is also the 36 mm by 24 mm frame size of 35 mm film fame which is held to be the definition of FF. No sensor can be made to Golden Rectangle dimensions because the square root of 5 guarantees the fraction has no end digit. But a sensor that comes close could be made, but I don't think any camera company would go out on that limb.

While I do not agree with Trump on the issues, I do give him credit for pushing the boundaries. While all the other candidates speak to the issues in clichė, Trump goes outrageous and pushes the others out of their comfort zones. I have always believed that if you want to know what a politition really thinks you have to push extremely hard to get them off-balance. So to the extent Trump is unmasking the others, he is providing a service. Does he deserve to be President - I think not but I hope he doesn't cash out too soon.

Within the meaning of the First Amendment is to yell "Fire Fire" in a crowded theatre protected. If yes, would the hollerer be liable for any damages that t***spired. So is one's exhortation for others to commit a crime or violence protected speech. The latter is several notches up from "Fire". Would the protection change were the exhortation be without the use of vocal chords but by fingers on a keyboard.

This looks like the perfect type of scene to demonstrate the effect of a polarizing filter. The grain of the polished wood might show clearly and also the top of the stoneware.

I know where you're coming from, evidence is evil. (Ignorance is strength!) Did you ever stop to wonder where you are going to get a cup of coffee the morning after you and your political compatriots burn the country down?

All I noted was what was related in a book, "1421" by Gavin Menzies, a retired British submarine commander, who took a great interest in the voyages of the Chinese Fleets of the early 15th Century. The historical record is what it is. From time to time, I peruse the papers in the IPCC where the evidence for global warming is presented. At 87 I am unaffected, but my grandkids and great grandkids are in for hell. As a student of physics, chemistry, engineering and math, it is not a matter of belief it is a matter of understanding the evidence. My call has been for an accomplished writer to summarize it in laymans terms.

The Perfect Day, January 20, 2017

1. President Donald Trump and Vice-President Ted Cruz are sworn into office.

2. In a rare event on inauguration day, Congress convenes for an emergency meeting to repeal the illegal and unconstitutional Socialist healthcare farce known as Obamacare. The new Director of Health and Social Services Dr. Ben Carson announces that an independent group of healthcare management professionals is hired to handle healthcare services for poor and low income people. They are also assigned the duty of eliminating Medicare and Medicaid fraud. Government’s costs for public healthcare are reduced by 90%. Healthcare insurance premiums for working Americans are reduced by 50%. The move saves billions of taxpayer paid dollars. Healthcare service in the U.S. improves 100%.

3. Newly appointed department of Homeland Security, General McChrystal, announces the immediate deployment of Troops to the U.S. -- Mexico border to control i*****l i*********n and the immediate deportation of i******s with criminal records or links to terrorist groups. New bio-encrypted Social Security ID’s are required by every American citizen. Birthright is abolished. All immigration from countries that represent a threat to the safety of American citizens is terminated indefinitely. The move saves American taxpayers billions of dollars. Several prisons are closed.

4. Newly appointed Secretary of Business and Economic Development, Mitt Romney, eliminates more than half of the Government agencies operating under the Obama administration saving taxpayers billions of dollars. Stocks rise 100%.

5. Newly appointed Director of Government Finance, Rand Paul, announces the abolition of the IRS and displays a copy of the new Federal Tax Return form. It consists of one page. The instructions consist of two pages. The Federal Reserve is audited. The move saves American taxpayers billions of dollars and increases tax revenue.

6. Hillary Clinton is in jail. Her cell is directly across from Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton who are serving time for ‘H**e Crimes." She b***hes at them constantly from behind the bars of her cell in what some might call cruel and unusual punishment.

7. Bernie Sanders is in a mental asylum. His room is directly across from Nancy Pelosi, Debbie Wasserman Schultz, Chris Matthews and Al Franken. They meet for tea every day at ten and discuss the success and benefits of C*******m and Socialism throughout the world. They wonder when the "Mothership" is going to pick them up and return them to their home planets.

8. Windows 12 is released. It is designed for humans, doesn’t try to satisfy the needs of every person on the planet, doesn’t require a degree in nuclear physics to operate and looks just like Windows 7 except it is easier to use.

9. Barack Obama flees the United States under cover of darkness and returns to his homeland of Kenya before his trial for treason begins. He deplanes on a remote jungle airstrip. He was last seen wandering through the jungle singing "Hakuna Matata" with a chimp named C****e.

10. Oscar Meyer announces the introduction of a new cholesterol and fat free pepperoni that tastes just like regular pepperoni. Not to be outdone, Kraft Foods announces the introduction of several varieties of cholesterol and fat free cheeses that taste just like regular cheese.

11. A committee is not established to determine what is causing g****l c*****g. Billions of taxpayer dollars are saved.

12. Dead people are no longer allowed to v**e; a huge blow for the Democrat Party.

13. And this, my friends, constitutes THE PERFECT DAY!
Well the attachment didn't work. I'll have to save... (show quote)

And to these a friend suggests a #14:

#14. All wages in the USA have been capped at $1.80 per hour, so that American workers can finally compete with Bangladeshi.
