The kid didn't 'build' a clock either. He took the guts out of a clock and put them in a small case. There are videos on the web showing how this was done and it took about 15 seconds. Got him a college scholarship.

I am pleased you took an intelligence test. Likely you had some self doubts. I have those same doubts.

Patience and tact are not relevant. They are subjective values. What issues do you have with the content I provided? You did not mention any so apparently there are none.

There is hypocrisy in your last statement. I provided similar but not as through information as amfoto1 but none the less provided information on a CP that identifies other criteria other than size that would add cost, none of which you mentioned. You chose to get personal and now you are pathetically trying to rationalize and justify.

That in part is the definition of an idiot. Better retake those intelligence tests..

No self doubts, just meeting requirements for various jobs.

I have made no personal statements about you. Calling somebody an idiot is making a personal and insulting statement; something you do in each of your posts.
Why do you want to irritate and antagonize everybody you respond to? I admit some of the posts here are sometimes silly. The spread of photography knowledge on this site is really wide. Try being nice to people, it gets you lots farther with folks. I know you can do it!

Nope, not according to several organizations who have provided me scoring results based on their intelligence tests. I also have manners and don't go around insulting people and calling them names.

The OP asked directly about the numbers (67, 77 mm etc) but his question was really about PRICES. In fact, he states, "I read where not to buy cheap".

Let's reread that original post.

I understand the benefits of using this filter and I'm looking at purchasing one shortly. I see where I can purchase a 58mm, 67mm, 77mm, 82mm…etc .

I don't understand the significance of the numbers and what they mean in practical terms. I also noticed as the numbers go up the price goes up significantly. Can anyone explain in laymen terms?

I've also read where not to buy a cheap one. Thanks so much!

How many question marks do you see? You are right that the sentence "I've also read where not to buy a cheap one." is a statement.

Size is only one part of the cost factor in CP. Why don't you read the entire post and ALL MY comments. Only an idiot would miss the information I provided. After you have read it, then come back and I will help you. Apparently you need it.

I'm quite sure that my comprehension and educational skills don't need any help from you. Based on your lack of courtesy and tact, I don't think you possess the patience and empathy necessary to be much of an educator.

I have no issues with amfoto1. He provides excellent information to this site on a consistent basis. He did a very good job of providing the information that you were unable to articulate, as I ask you to do in my initial post.

You may now resume your normal name calling and tirades.

Once again, shallow information. Why not talk about the differences among CP's such as materials, construction, coatings, weight, thickness, reduction in light, vignetting, etc? Why not mention that some manufactures such as Lee provide a square polarizer that quickly clips on and off the lens and with an adapter can be used on lenses of different sizes?

Go ahead, now call me a moron and other names as you have done... go ahead. Please stay on character.

As for the OP's question about cheap or not, there are significant differences with CP's. Brand name alone does not guarantee quality.

The OP didn't ask any of those questions. MTShooter answered the question asked. If you think all those other things are important, why didn't you educate us on them?

Hi all. In March I am going to Yellowstone and want to prepare early for my trek in the snow and freezing temperatures. Today I am looking for tips on my gear (another time I will be looking for photo tips for shooting in the snow). I have a Nikon D5100, and a P900. On my last vacation I carried both cameras with a Black Rapid double strap. Is it okay for a camera to be in extreme cold weather, or does it need to be under my coat or jacket? Do they make warm gloves with no fingers so you can operate your camera? Do I have to worry about condensation in or on my camera when I return to my room? What else should I buy to enhance the photo part of my trip?

The Zeiss ZE lens is Canon mount (it's also offered in other mounts, such as ZF for Nikon).

This really is apples vs oranges, trying to compare these two lenses. Yes, both are 50mm lenses, and both are ultra high quality.... but that's about where the similarities end. They serve very different purposes and are designed to render images differently.

The Zeiss 50mm f2 Makro-Planar is all about being able to deliver uncompromising sharpness from edge-to-edge with durable, high precision, all-metal build quality. It is a macro lens optimized for very close focusing. And, like all the Zeiss lenses for other camera systems, is strictly manual focus and can focus as close as 9.5 inches, for 0.5X or 1:2 or half life-size magnification.

The Canon 50/1.2L is almost the opposite... It's all about beautiful background blurs and soft transitions and is typical very high quality and durable L-series build and environmental sealing. It's optimized for portrait shooting distances and is a popular wedding lens for the dreamy image qualities it can render. It has autofocus, though it's not the fastest USM lens Canon offers. It's not optimized for close up, by any means, but can focus to about 18 inches, giving 0.15X or a little less than 1/6 life-size magnification.

Both lenses are usable for other purposes, of course, but are somewhat specialized. They aren't really your typical "normal" walk-around lenses (though they can be used that way, if you wish). Canon EF 50/1.4 USM, EF 50/1.8 STM and Zeiss 50/1.4 ZE are more "normal" lenses.

The Canon lens is a little bigger (72mm filters vs 67mm) and slightly heavier.

You can compare the two lenses side-by-side on www.the-digital-picture.com. Both are thoroughly reviewed and tested there.

Nikon has been curiously quiet while Canon has been curiously active... Here's another announcement!

Here’s what the company had to say on the new 5D series EOS camera with 120MP sensor:

“Featuring a resolution of approximately 120 effective megapixels, the SLR camera now being developed will incorporate a Canon-developed high-pixel-density CMOS sensor within the current EOS-series platform, which will realize compatibility with the Company’s diverse interchangeable EF lens lineup. The high-resolution images that the camera will be capable of producing will recreate the three-dimensional texture, feel and presence of subjects, making them appear as if they are really before one’s eyes. The camera will facilitate a level of resolution that is more than sufficient for enlarged poster-sized printout while also enabling images to be cropped and trimmed without sacrificing image resolution and clarity.”

Just to keep the facts straight, Canon's release did not say any thing about the sensor being for a 5D camera.

Like they waited for Sony and Nikon to release a 50mp sensor first?

Currently Sony holds 59% of the mirrorless market, with their share growing. But suprisingly, Sony also wants to dominate the the DSLR market and is using their FULL FRAME E mount platforms as a stepping stone.

Let's see how this turns out. With a new FF A mount DSLR due out next month and another reasonably priced model with advanced features before the end of the year, and a new 8K video capable full frame to be released in 2016, it looks like the company is serious....

We will see.......

Buy that doesn't say fluorite is used in each L lens. The list I posted earlier, also from the Canon Europe site, shows the specific lenses that use the fluorite crystals vs. those that use UD or SUD lens components.

Good page on Canon's L lenses -

http://www.kehblog.com/2013/02/an-overview-of-canon-l-series-lenses.html

Carter, one of the pages I read said Canon claims all L lenses contain at least one fluorite or ultra-low dispersion element in the lens. Maybe that is what you saw?
