I am having a hard time with my sport pictures (What do you use for editing? Lightroom or Photoshop Do you use Topaz products? how much do they cost ? DelRae
These are good DelRae. Indoor lighting is difficult. As Jules preaches, and he’s the professor, fill the frame and capture the faces. Practice, practice, practice like Tom said. Best regards, Paul
I use LRC for editing color adjustment, cropping - but no noise or sharpening work. For that I use Topaz products as appropriate. You can see some of my images in the Sports Photography section of UHH.
More importantly though- if you explain what you mean by "hard time", you will more likely than not, get better responses.
I just went through the process of transferring my Costco photos and account details to Shutterfly. They say it will take 24 to 48 hours...will keep you posted of progress.
I've found the Shutterfly products to be good, just never liked the price, especially compared to Costco. If they really are giving us 51% plus free shipping on orders over $49, I guess that just might work for me.
they did save me money and I really like the pictures let me know what you think when you get your order please I always get my Shpping order Free DelRae
I don't think you are that far away from addressing your concerns. I hope you don't mind, but I grabbed one of your photos and tweaked it a bit. Nothing too elaborate, and if I were going to really run with it, I would play around a little more. Today I took about 5 minutes and just did a bit of the following:
-Brightened it up a bit (probably could use some more) -Cropped it a little -Ran it through Topaz Sharpen using the program's default/auto settings
I believe once you are comfortable with lighting and noise reduction you will then be able to play around with composition. Things like cropping, filling the frame, etc.
Topaz allows a trial period of all of their products. Personally I favor Denoise and Sharpen. Denoise when I really have to crank up the ISO to address lighting and Sharpen when lighting is fine and I just want it a hair sharper. But you can download them and see if they fit what you want to do. Today I actually used a free photo viewer, Faststone, to brighten and crop this photo. Normally I use Lightroom.

yes that does look better thank you I have only used picasa 3 and it is old not that good. I will try and check out some Program's maybe they will have some on YouTube ?? DelRae
I have been notified that Costco is closing down their photo business this month. A shame there quality and service was pretty good. They say I should transfer my account to Shutterfly and I will get 51% off of every order. Has anyone here done this yet and if so do you have any comments? Can my customers order directly from Shutterfly and pay full price so I can get the 51% sent to me?
Thanks
I do lots of my pictures done at Shutterfly Order on line they do lots of sales I really like the pictures lots they send them to my home and it is just like Costco But I don't Understand the 51% Off ?? DelRae

I took a walk in the local preserve today and took a few bird shots. Although they are not the best they will have to do as the day was cold and grey skies. What am I doing wrong........Something seems to be lacking Blue skies are forecast for the weekend Thanks for the help
I like your Pictures better than what I could do DelRae
On a trip to the West Desert few weeks ago, on a very cold, windy overcast day with harsh light, came upon this Golden Eagle holding on to a power pole for dear life. Was surprised he let me get this close for photos although but of us were blowing around like rags. Not the best photos and they are very heavy crops, but, what the heck!!
you can see what Bird it is better than what I have done when I try DelRae
've been very busy with my marching bands/pageantry for the last 4 months, so my trips to the Huntington Beach Pier have been a no. However I got by last Friday for a short time, actually splitting time with some birding (of which I will post some birdies elsewhere). Two very different activities...of course both requiring fast shutter. These are at 1/1600th, f 6.3 and 400mm...all shot at crop on my Z9 which results in a 19.4 MP file.
Photographed NCSU women's basketball vs. Davidson. Have to admit I was little nervous as they were missing two key starters. They handled it fine. But regular season starts tomorrow versus Clemson.
Shot with Z9 and 24-70 f2.8. 1/1250, ISO 4000-5000 wide open. I experimented a bit in DX mode. It is good to keep that in mind going forward. I didn't see any degradation of the quality. Here are a few from the game. You may see them and the rest on my website: https://rickcornell.zenfolio.com/p414269803
Looks like media slots will be in short supply the rest of the way. I am cautiously optimistic about my chances for more credentials. But it has been fun!
