The Nikon 18-200 DX VR-II is an outstanding do everything lens. Wide enough and fast enough at all lengths.
I have used the original VR version and the later VR2 version of this lens. They have been the only lenses on my D50, D7000, and D7100 cameras during my travels. It's a little heavy and awkward, but it does everything I want. It is possible to use the long 200mm setting at closest focus distance to sub for a macro lens (usually flower shots), too.

Rome, Italy

I have been to Rome, Italy 3 times: 1978 (coach toor); 2003 (with church choir); and 2006 (with local secular chorus). I took photographs during all 3 trips. I have previouly posted Topics of several churches in Rome, but never got around to just posting photos of other things seen there. This will be a collection of “other” sights from all 3 visits. The 1978 images were scanned from Ektachrome slides, probably from a Nickkormat FT camera with a 28-200 Tamron lens. The 2003 images were probably made on ASA 400 film with a Nikon N70 with the same Tamron lens. The 2006 images were taken with a Nikon D50 with the original 18-200VR lens.

I have visited Rome several times: 1978 (coach tour from Germany); 2003 (with my church choir); and 2006 (with a secular chorus). Enjoyed every tour and took lots of pictures. Rome is very photogenic and offers many opportunities for great pictures.

I'm not familiar with "smart phones". What level of telephone is possible with the cameras on them? In my travels, although most of my photos are taken fairly close up, there are many for which significant "reach" is needed.

Apparently there have been some relaxing of the rules--when I was there NO PHOTOGRAPHY was allowed, period. The same at Sacré-Couer.

^^^^^ I suppose you do the same thing at the Basilica of Sacre-Coeur in Paris, too?

Bless you for remembering. The staff in my doctor's office yesterday had no idea what day it was, or what it meant. I was disgusted. One of the most significant days in World History and they didn't know it.

I visited Normandy on 5 Jun 2015, and there was a lot of activity (day before the historic date). My favorite photo was of an old soldier (Brit, I think) in his finery catching a few rays and napping.

I've been to Italy several times. The first time was in 1978 and I think my camera was a Nikkormat with a Tamron 28-200mm zoom. Again in 1998 probably with the same lens on a Nikon N70. Again in 2003 with the N70 and Tamron, but also a Nikon FE with a Vivitar 28mm f/1.8--used ASA 400 in the N70 and ASA 800 in the FE for indoor shots. Back again in 2006 with a Nikon D50 and the original 18-200VR lens. Did everything I wanted it to do.

I'm not a professional, by any means, but I like to get decent photos of my travels. I love indoor shots in cathedrals and need both low light and telephoto capabilities. I don't think I'd be happy with just a smart phone--not enough reach. YMMV

In 2008 I did a Baltic cruise and one of the ports was Stockholm. It's a beautiful city. My photos of it are here: https://www.flickr.com/photos/8712554@N02/sets/72157607211900591/.

I love lonely trees. I have two that I want to photograph. Both are in treacherous locations. No safe parking, high speed traffic and muddy accesses. One day I will get them both. In the meantime, I will enjoy shots like yours. Thanks!

If you like lonely trees and visit the coast of California, I recommend you check out the "Lone Cypress" at Pebble Beach. Be advised that the title (and tree) is a registered trademark, so you can't put a photo of it on any public merchandise.

Very nice. Looks similar to some I photographed in Kenya, Africa in 2019.

I think most major towns/cities have a St. Joseph's Church.

Thank you. My Lightroom is currently unavailable and I wasn't able to make any PP, so some are dark.

I thought you did very well. The only comment I would make would be to use a little post-processing to bring up the shadow details just a little.

I was distracted by the title of the Set, because there is also a Combat Air Museum in Topeka, not the one that you detailed. My photos of it are located on Flickr: https://www.flickr.com/photos/8712554@N02/sets/72157631809879215/
