The Sigma lenses all come with their own custom padded cases, so you don't need to buy aftermarket cases like Tamron makes you have to.

Very disappointing that Tamron don't supply a Sigma type case for the Tammy 150-600. Two weeks ago I was talking with the Chief Exec of the sole importers of Tamron in the UK (Intro 2020) at the National Photography show at the National Exhibition Centre Near Birmingham, UK. When asked on the subject of a protective lens case for the Tamron 150-600, he stated there will be one available in the UK in about a month to six weeks time. and he was hoping Tamron would produce one with and for the Tamron 150-600, but he could not answer about the USA, but he did say the lens was selling like hot cakes. In his opinion when questioned about the build of this long lens is the best build Tamron so far has achieved, far better than for example the 18-270 mm B008 3.5-6.3.

We are not fortunate enough to be able to see Ospreys in southern England, not are we able to see Bald Eagles, we do have Red Kites and Buzzards. The Kite has a wing shaped similar to the Osprey although being a lot smaller and can easily our fly the Buzzard whose wing is shaped more like the Bald Eagle again though a lot smaller. Is this the same with the Osprey and the Bald Eagle, the Osprey can out fly the Eagle? Great images and action, oh to see it happen.!!

rstrick2 thanks for your comments on the tamron as the price of 2300$ for the new canon 100-400mm is out of reach for me. Yes I think the 600mm reach makes it a nice birding lens. Have you had any success with handholding this lens or do you use it mainly on a tripod. Happy Holiday!!

If the Tammy is a little heavy for you to hand hold for the convenience use a monopod, just to take away that front end weight. Less lugging around than a tripod

Carefully selecting which ones, I have purchased several USED lenses (all but one, from eBay) and am SUPER HAPPY with them. . . .
=========
However, I got a TOKINA 100 Macro 2.8 for my 5D yesterday afternoon and it took two shots and then I got "Err 01" messages after clicking the shutter button.

I tried gently cleaning the contacts with alcohol and Q-tip, to no avail. The first time I tried cleaning with just a soft cloth and nothing more, I got one more working shot, and then nothing. Tried making some shots at F-22. . .nothing

I have Googled the issue a bit, but was wondering if anybody here had something pertinent to add to this "Err 01" message.

I will likey use eBay to force a return of this lens, (seller posted "no returns) but would like to be sure I have explored all avenues first.

Thanks for any thoughts on this.

I purchased a very old Sigma lens that worked fine at a camera fair on two different bodies but when I got it home it took 5 images and up stepped err 01, only cost £5 so I ditched it, same thing happened with a 12 year old Canon 70-300 eventually same code and it never worked again. Contacts worn out or wire inside loose. Get your money back or another working lens, the one you have will never be right unless it is serviced and that could be expensive.

That's probably it, but you have to wonder how many constituents don't want to take pictures outside of their own homes. And how about kids taking pictures with their cell phones all over the place?

Arkansas will have to create a special police force. They could give it a pleasant name, like Friendly Uniformed Constables Keeping You Offline Unfairly. Of course, they would abbreviate such a long name and use the first letter of each word. :D

Did you mean the sex and travel brigade?

Not as bad as waiting for my D800 but am patiently waiting. Got off the phone with B&H 10 min ago still not here. Sighhhhhh

Ordered a Cannon PIXMA pro 100 printer. Am just tooooooo tired of the HP garbage. Shall see how this holds up.

You will not be disappointed. After HP, Brother, Lexmark and Epsom , I now have the Canon Pixma IX6550 A3 printer, combined with profiles that are profiled to the papers I use and printed via Photoshop or Lightroom (That is where the profiles are used from) the results are awesome both in colour and black & white. Enjoy.

do you have hides to hide yourselves from the Ospreys around the lake or do you just take your chance and stand/lie down etc?

I rented a Canon 100-400mm II and compared those shots against my Tamron 150-600mm lens using my Canon 7D Mk2 camera. They are about equal in sharpness and quality. The Canon 100-400 II photos are sharp but smaller than the Tamron 150-600mm photos which are larger and sharp.
The Canon 100-400 II lens is smaller and lighter and has the fastest focusing I have ever seen. Great lens, but you will pay about $2,200 for it. It's easily hand held, you really don't need a tripod. Rugged and water resistant, etc. I still like my Tamron for it's reach and sharpness and is about half the price of the Canon.
First 3 photos are taken with the Tamron and the last 3 photos are taken with the Canon. All are at 600mm. I know these photos are subjective because the birds are not a static target.
The Canon 100-400mm shots were all at 400mm.
The skies were cloudy with rain today.

Great work as usual Regis. Bearing in mind the Canon 100-400 mk 2 costs double what the Tamron does I wonder how Tamron have produced such a good lens for the money. How ever I am wondering now that the Canon 100-400 mk 1 will cost about the same or slightly less than the Tamron albeit 2nd Hand, I wonder how that Canon will compare to the Tamron. I have a good mind to rent one and try it the same way you have Regis. If I do now that spring and better light and more birds are starting to show, I will let you know the outcome.

You don't want to know, your just being argumentative, you have already made up your mind, so if you do not want to shoot the best images you can ,shoot jpeg. Nothing else need be said

I was thinking along the same lines about the Canon 100-400 but a mk1 alongside the Tamron I would not get enough use to warrant paying the £1700 or so for the Mk2
although having the Tamron 150-600 is it worth having the Canon as it is another hefty lump of glass to carry and we can only use one lens at a time. What would be wrong is using the Tamron at 400mm? Do you think the Canon may be sharper?

Hi Regis , I may have to look at the 7dmk2 in the future then, only unlike you whereas you shoot 90% of the time, I also like to shoot landscapes as well as wildlife, so I may have to progress to the 6d for lack of noise and the 7dmk2 for the wildlife. I had better hope the pensions go up. From what I have seen heard read and watched the 7dmk2 is awesome, I think for what you want it for it will be just perfect. Regards Washy

Regis. Hi why the switch from the full frame 6d to the crop factor 7Dmk2. You still going to use the 6d or have you sold her? I can understand the 7dmk2 as far as its frames per second over the 6d is the auto focus better as well? My new Tamron 150-600 has been out twice so far so good Better on auto focusing and quicker than my Sigma ever was (newer technology perhaps) and the Tamron build seems to be really good now. Happy shooting. Washy

I upset a lorry driver in France whilst sober, at a set of lights where we stopped, I was driving our right hand drive (Briish) car the lorry driver started gesticulating and shouting in French at our non drivers window, my wife in fluent French told him to his surprise to sex and travel he was that stunned at either being confronted by a very angry British lady speaking his own language better than he or finding her not driving, "wrong side chappie", he was last seen returning to his lorry muttering and gesticulating and I roughly translate "blimey English back seat lady drivers" I felt very sorry for him !!
