I am thinking about doing some underwater Photography. My cameras are Nikon D6,D850 and Z7Ii. My first instincts are to use my 14-24 f/2.8.
So my questions from those with experience please,
I usually go to my D6 first, but it may not be the best for this use. Which would you use?
What are the best housings, including lens ports with zoom capabilities,
What kind of liighting is best for use with 14-24?

I have looked in previous posts, but the latest I could find were from 2016, so I figure there is more current data.
Thank is all.

Agree! Every time I "Test" a lens(es), I want to sell them all and quit photography (and do - for a day or so!). Now I just use what I have and generally love the results! I even have a Nikkor 35-70 F 3.3-4.5 that is a great lens for plinking around - even though to hear the critics, it is Horrible!! The same with my "Horrible" 36-72 F 3.5 E series zoom. That bottom sucker is Sharp and can produce excellent results with a bit of post-work (my objection to it is it won't focus closer than about four feet - most of my shots are close-up style!).

JMOO.

This is why tests, done by the user or by professional labs, have limited usefulness. I am a Canon user largely because they seem to ignore testing results from other labs and just try to create lens/camera combos that deliver user desired results in the field.

The truth is that older Sigma Art lenses in EF and other non-Sony mounts could use a Sigma Dock for adjustments. But the new Sigma Art and Sigma Contemporary lenses in native E-mount DO NOT have any Sigma dock for them. Sigma makes no E-mount Sigma dock. All software updates and any adjustments now work like native Sony lenses with the lens mounted on the Sony camera and a USB cable from the camera into your computer, and adding firmware updates or changes that way, same as OEM Sony lenses now.

There is only a Sigma dock for Sony A-Mount lenses, none for E-mount, though it had been rumored over a year ago, but not made.

Did not know that. Given the popularity of Sony, you would think they would offer that.

I want to test several of my new "A" mount lenses prior to planning which to take on a trip. These include Tamron 28-300mm f3.5-6.3 Di PZD, 70-300mm f4-5.6 Di USD, Minolta 28-135mm f4-4.5, and 70-210mm f4 (Beercan). My test will be at 100mm for each lens, and I have two questions; First, should I shoot in raw or jpg? (my jpg files out of the A99 are the best I've seen from Sony)
Second question is, should I also shoot the Minolta 100mm f2.8 to compare sharpness, or is that asking too much from the zooms?

I am not sure about the usefulness of static tests for a travel lens. Very little travel photography is static in nature (except landscape and some architecture.) For your comparison, you would need to shoot at f4 to compare. I am not sure the zooms will all hold f4 at 100mm. More important is how well you can control the lens in the field and how good it is at the ends of the zoom range. That said my money is on the 70-210 (I assume the Tamron?) Unless you are doing in-town, in which case you will need a wider lens.

Another wrinkle in brand vs Sigma Art. The Art lenses are compatible with the Sigma Hub. This means you can (in addition to having access to software updates) adjust some features that you cannot with Brand lenses. The extent of those adjustments depends on the lens. Just something to keep in mind.

For my cannon I use BVD sometimes Haines, not fruit-of-the-loom. And never a speedo, they are just wrong....

Sorry, wrong cannon.

Maybe a little fantasy (or self delusion) thrown in.

Why I've become partial to the XT1

1.The image quality
( that's not to say I'm dissatisfied with the results of the Canon they too have given me some very nice photos)
2. The ergonomics
3.Newest of my cameras and I got caught up in the hype of Fuji mirrorless cameras

The weight is a non-factor. I do have better selection of lenses for the Canon than for the XT1.

Summary; you like the images, you like the feel and it is fun. Seems like an easy choice.

Just for fun... I want to get a shot of a firecracker exploding. Actually, it's my grandson who wants to try this.

The setup will be in my basement workshop in the after dark hours. We'll cover the window as much as possible so for practical purposes it'll be totally dark.

The firecracker will be ignited by an electric igniter like used used by the model rocket folks.

Camera will be focused on firecracker, lights turned off, shutter in bulb mode. Assuming there is a flash with small firecrackers we should get an image. BTW: the fire cracker is small enough to not cause damage to camera from a 5 to 10 foot distance.

Any thoughts?? Suggestions... Dangers other than the obvious from playing with fireworks..?

Given your parameters, (though I would not do it indoors, but hey!) If you are in darkness, set the exposure for a enough seconds to cover the time you need to create the explosion. No light will enter beyond what you have in the blacked out room, tight aperture, go to town!

It's been a while since I've posted here and about a year since I've done any serious photography. I have a Canon 70d and a Canon 5d MarkII with a selection of 4 lenses, I also have a Fuji XT1 with 2 lines. I had thought about upgrading to the Fuji XT4 then recently I read a review and watched some You Tube videos on the Canon 90d. I enjoy using both the Canon and the Fuji but have become a little partial to the Fuji XT1.

I'm now deciding whether I should re-think the choices and go with the Canon 90d versus the XT4. I'm looking for some feedback as to which way I should head in. I have a better selection of Canon lenses so I'm thinking maybe the 90d? I have been satisfied with my current line up and maybe I just have a case of GAS.

You say you "have become a little partial to the Fuji XT1". Why? What is making that appealing? If you can articulate that, we might be able to give you better advice. Is it the images? The ergonomics? The weight? Do you just like saying the word "FUJI"? (It is a fun word to say! fooooooooji! "Canon" is more brutal on the tongue.)

Thanks for any advise you can give...

Kind of depends on the use. Are you doing BIF, stationary wildlife, macro of flowers, portraits, weddings,.....?

Jerry, when, "driving somewhere to shoot" The center-line of the road, yellow, is at the out the window elbow if driving on the left or right side of the road... Australia for example the steering wheel is on the "passenger side" of the car so your right elbow is out the window.

I longed for the Minolta i7000 modern camera, bought a used one to replace my Pentax simpleminded 1000. Beautiful shot missed, the i7000 had menus in menus and I lost a shot laying in ice-cold mountain stream trying to photograph the sun just at the waterfall top and the camera refused!! The old Pentax with the in-view light-meter needle would have done MY bidding. I almost had a stroke... 40 years later, not forgotten... so Jerry, frustration over menus may not be healthy.

Add “and without knowing what you will be shooting”. E.g., Flocks of pelicans in flight at a distance or shorebirds on the sand at the water’s edge within 20 or 30 feet. Probably both? In any event, I use a Canon 7D with a 100-400 lens (original models). For unexpected BIF and other opportunities, I carry it set for ISO 400 and shutter 1/800th. It’s set for TV which lets me adjust the shutter speed and exposure correction on the fly. When I have time to set up for a shot (e.g., nesting birds), everything is in play. AND I make sure to reset everything to my “carry” settings. Nothing like snap shooting a kingfisher and discovering my shutter speed is still 1/200th (guarantees blur for me).

I like the idea of setting ISO as well. Especially if you are not shooting RAW. The sky can really mess with auto ISO.

OH NO!
BMW drivers are, by definition, incapable of rational driving!
I think you may have to prove you failed your license exam at least three times just to qualify for a test drive of a beemer.
BMW types think the lines on the road is where you aim the middle of you vehicle.
