I just learned that one of my favorite "Hogs" here on UHH ... CindyHouk ... has entered a contest out where she lives in Montana. The photo she submitted has appeared here on UHH previously ... a photo of what I think is the most magnificent bugling bull elk I have ever seen!!!!

The contest is based on votes from viewers & since Cindy would not feel comfortable "tooting her own horn", I figured I would ask anyone reading this, to click on the following link:

https://dailyinterlake.secondstreetapp.com/Snappys-Outdoor-Photo-Contest-december/gallery/205310761

And then vote for the photo shown below. And thanks in advance to any & all who support Cindy's work.

Note: Voting is open until 12/31 @ 1:59pm Eastern, so please vote before then.

And thank you.

any suggestions for setting when scanning older, sharp, clear, b&w photos. no sepia, etc using Vuescan software.... just old family b&w prints

This was talked about awhile ago and this is the setting that was recommended at that time; negs 3000 dpi ;prints 600 dpi ;slides 2000 dpi. it also said to clean prints with a microfiber cloth first. negs and slides with a blower brush wear lint free gloves and keep the scanning glass clean. this was posted to ugly headgehog on aug 20 2019. main photo dis.

I also have the ebson V600 and love it.IT is very easy to use and does prints;slides and Negs.IT does take time to do it yourself but you can do it at your own pace. The ebson V600 cost around $200.00 at Staples when I bought mine 2 years ago. Also you can get extra slide and print holders cheap at Compass Micro.com phone num.1 800 388 8595. part nums slides 1423040 and negs.1599929 .For prints you just lay them on the scanner. It also allows you to adjust the color and make some repairs to the picture as needed. IT takes about 2 to 5mins per scan. You can do 4 slides at a time ;1 neg strip; and afew pictures at a time depending on the size of the print. Have fun.

It would be nice if this forum had the ability to create polls, as I've seen on other sites. Anyway, here's my question. How many of you use a laptop as your main computer? I began with desktops, and although I also have laptops, it's hard for me to take a laptop seriously. It's the same with cameras. Unless it's a big, heavy DSLR, I can't take it seriously. I know I'm wrong on both counts, but since I began with the big stuff, that's what I tend to use.

So - desktop or laptop?

I use a laptop and have never owned a desktop.

Traveling to SD on business. Wondering if my 16-300 will be sufficient for seal photos. I’m trying to leave the 200-500 at home.

Thoughts pls from those who have been there, pls.

if you are at La Jolla cove shooting seals you can use any lens you have but I would sugest something in the range of 70 to 105 because you can get pretty close to the seals in some cause even a 50 would be fine.

Thanks, Bob. I was looking through Amazon, but there are so many there, it’s confusing. Even Epson has a large number of scanners. I need one that scans both slides as well as prints.

the Epson v600 scans prints;negs;and slides and you can make adjustments as needed to repair color and damage .IT costs under $200.00 .
