Why not send it to Nikon? If you don't want to send it to Nikon, a local repair facility will probably do just as good a job as one in New York.
The only reason I can think of to send it to the other side of the country is if there's a warranty involved.

The OP is. He is questioning why his current Canon 75-300 seems to be better than the Sigma 100-400.

If it is the older EF 75-300 and the camera is fine tuned to that lens then a big maybe but if it's a newer EF 75-300 then either there's something wrong with the Sigma or, well, I really don't know because the newer EF 75-300 is probably the weakest zoom Canon currently makes.

When I first joined, I didn't know, but maybe because I was so excited and didn't read the rules! Now I got yelled at for posting a photo to someone's post so they could compare similar photos and I am accused of high jacking someone's post, well not so, but I listen, learn, and don't do it again!

I did that once when I first joined, once. You'd think I committed a felony. Some people are really, really thin skinned and very possessive of something that basically open to the general public and cost them nothing. I think I may have been blocked for that even though I apologized; oh well...

Are you planning to generate income with the new camera? I ask because you stated "camera to invest in" and an investment is usually something you purchase to make money with. Previous responders said there are two types of camera to chose from, mirrorless and DSLR but there is also bridge cameras and simple point and shoot cameras. A decent point and shoot would be a step up from your cell phone camera. A bridge camera is a point and shoot but it is more like a mirrorless without interchangeable lens. Knowing ones budget would help also because there can be a big difference in price based on camera type and quality and even manufacturer.

A "used" Canon Powershot SX60HS. I wanted a decent easy to use camera that we (myself and my wife) could use to take photos of our two puppies Bert and Missy. I wanted something that I could set on full auto for the wife and easily change settings when I use it, something like a DSLR but not big and heavy like a DSLR. Something that I could leave laying around the house. Something that produces good quality images and video without costing much. I don't actually consider it a GAS purchase since it was something I was specifically looking for and it was not an impulse type purchase. The camera is in like new condition, works perfectly and I purchased it for close to $200 less than retail.

I like RWR's reply. Basically, clean it if it needs to be cleaned, and don't change lenses in an environment that could result in a dirty sensor.

Yes, you can. Use auto import in Lightroom.
There are videos on YouTube that show you how to do it.

Looks just like the critter that was perched on my car's windshield this morning. Manny the Mantis... Good shot.

Shooting raw?? What is that? Do you use PC or MAC with raw?

The simplest explanation is, RAW is the unprocessed digital image file created by the camera. It contains all the data gathered by the digital image sensor and other data added by the cameras micro processor.

The 5DSR is a really nice camera, I've had one almost 2 years now. What do you mean by setting it up? Have you read through the owners manual yet?

I use my Canon 2X teleconverter on my 50 megapixel 5DSR and it seems to work ok. Of course I guess it has a lot to do with what one is photographing and what lens they are using. I don't use it for shooting wildlife but I do use the 1.4X teleconverter for wildlife.

I have a very nice Sony digital camera that is at least 15 years old. It uses 64, 128, 256 MB memory sticks. I can't find an interface to get the images into a computer. My Sony computer with the slots for these memory sticks broke years ago. I can't afford a quality DSLR and I am impressed with the quality of this Canon EOS 620 camera. My husband had it on a shelf for 15 years, but it was safe because there was no battery nor film in it to ruin the camera. This Canon EOS 620 camera only needed a $10 battery, and film. As far as I have seen, this was top of the world quality in 1987-1989. I'm very happy. Now, I'll try to find a good tripod, rugged enough to take pictures of birds outside. This tripod is desperately needed. P.S. My older Sony digital camera even has night vision, and night "Framing" But what's the sense of it if I can't read the memory sticks? Digital stinks.

My very first digital camera was a Sony Mavica CD-300 that recorded onto mini compact discs. That camera is 18 years old and it still works and even though its only around 3 megapixels, the images it produces are pretty good.
WalMart.com sells a Sony memory stick reader that plugs into a USB port for $2. Digital doesn't stink, it's far more flexible and convenient than film. I shot film for over 25 years and I still have my old Canon AT-1, AE-1 and A-1 cameras and they still work but I can't do with them what I can do with my Canon and Nikon DSLR'S.
A 15 megapixel EOS 50D in good condition can be had for under $250.

Can you post a sample of your painting?
