I disagreed with him and he blocked me. Either he is a child or a very immature adult who can't stand the least bit of criticism. He constantly posts irrelevant and nonsensical topics and apparently thrives on what little attention he gets here.
I've never blocked anyone. I don't believe in that kind of censorship. I believe in agreeing to disagree. Even people you may disagree with from time to time may have good ideas to discuss, and isn't that what the forum is all about?!

The Canon 5D IV does 4K at 30fps and frame capture is quite simple. You may do it in camera or with a computer. I've used this feature many times with great results. One advantage to using a DSLR over a smart phone device is lenses. Smart phone devices are limited to little tiny lenses, DSLR'S are not.

I own several off white lenses with black bands around them. The most common one you see is the Canon EF 70-200 f/2.8 although my favorite is the Canon EF 28-300 f/3.5-5.6, a little slower but super versatile.

I think a new EF-S 18-55 goes for around $195. Depending on where and how it is cracked, you can glue it back together. Do not use any kind of super glue, the fumes they generate could be bad for the glass. Use a good epoxy to fix the Crack. Another option, if you are adventurous is, since it is a plastic base, you can actually convert it from EF-S to EF. There are a couple Web sites and videos that show you how to do it.

My understanding (Maybe False),
formatting a card in your PC can cause it to become corrupted.

The reality is, the file structure created when you format in the PC or the camera is exactly the same. The camera will add a file or two that the PC formatting will not, but if you put a PC formatted card in the camera and the required files are missing, the camera will add the files to the card. But, to keep life simple, format the card in the camera.

If he doesn't have software that handles CR2 he can always download some from the Internet, assuming he has Internet access. I'd say, it depends on the capacity of the SD card. RAW files are much larger than JPEG files so shooting RAW may decrease the number of shot you may take. If it's a 64 gb or larger card then you may want to consider RAW or RAW and JPEG. With the CR2 files, you just have more post processing flexibility than with JPEG files, flexibility that may turn an off shot into a keeper.

I use a Canon EF 85 f/1.2 for portraiture so the Nikkor 85 f/1.4 would be my recommendation.

I own more Canon cameras than Nikon cameras so one would think I'd tend to be more partial to Canon. I like my two Nikon DSLR'S and have acquired a decent set of lenses for them. Here is where I'm going with this; you have a decent lens already that mounts to Nikon, so, logically the D3400 or even D3300 or D5500 would be the better choice. The Canon T6 is probably the least featured entry level DSLR Canon makes and you would need a lens to get started. You have a good lens already and the D3400 is a very nice small DSLR, although personally I'd go with the D5500, so, stick with Nikon, you won't be sorry.

I agree with you. The whole sharpness thing is way, way over rated. Sure, it's good to have sharp lenses but exactly how sharp is necessary?! I read reviews and commentary on lenses and it's almost always this lens is a bit sharper than that lens at this or that focal length. Personally I honestly don't care if I can see the texture in brick at 50 feet, but to the my dog is bigger than your dog crowd, I guess even the smallest detail is important. Sure, they're dog may be bigger than my dog, actually have two if that matters, but mine probably cost more than many...
