Glad you enjoyed it. Manhattan Project was an incredible project. We live near Oak Ridge and know many people who work there. We went through Los Alamos also this summer. It was an incredible time in our history.

Ed Westcott was the only photographer allowed into Oak Ridge during the Manhattan Project. His photos captured moments in history and have been seen all over the world.

If you don’t need it secure, go to www.wetransfer.com. There’s a free version where you just put your email and anyone else’s email you want it to go to and attach the file. Before I retired, I used to send large Photoshop files and PowerPoint files all the time because they would fill up my Dropbox. I think the link is good for two weeks. You can send up to 2 gigs each time.

I like the Phlearn tutorials. Not sure if this is what you are looking for, but Phlearn uses masks in many tutorials with many types of masks on curves layers. Everyone learns differently, so this may or may not help you. I guess it’s worth a try!

This is one of his very basic tutorials:

I’m going to leave the lens suggestions up to the experts, but If you are going to Charleston between March 13th and April 18th, you may be interested in the Spring Festival of Houses and Gardens. Link is below.

https://www.historiccharleston.org/blog/events/category/festival-houses-gardens/

We’ve been going to Charleston since the mid 80’s and own a place at the beach with some friends. Just an FYI, Please don’t overlook the food/restaurants. My brother started texting me a little while ago asking if I’d been to any of the restaurants he had just texted me. I replied ‘yes’ to all of them except one and asked where he was getting all these restaurant names. He said the list of best 25 US restaurants just came out (it was either US News and World Report or USA Today) and the restaurants he was mentioning were listed were the ones from Charleston. He said Charleston had the highest percentage of best restaurants for the 25 listed. I asked ‘Including NYC’ and he said, ‘Yes, including NYC’.

Enjoy your trip!!!

I have used Canvas on Demand quite a few times and their email today was 88% off. Example - 16x20 for $24.00 and includes free priority shipping. Use code NKPT50. Expires today. They have always done a nice job on my photos.

I have used Lens Rental many times. I can walk to their Brentwood location during lunch. Everyone is very helpful. Once when I was at a loss for a lense I called their 800 number and the people in Memphis were great. I now have the Canon 5D IV as you do, but at that time I had a 70D and the lense they suggested I ended up purchasing. You may want to call their 800 number and tell them what you wrote above and see what they suggest. I haven’t rented anything for awhile, because after renting many items I am very happy with my current camera and lenses and haven’t had any GAS for a while. However, every time I go into the parking lot where they are located to pick up lunch at a place in the same retail center, I get that ‘kid on Christmas morning’ feeling! Give them a call, it won’t cost you anything for the call!

Over the mountain from Tennessee into Virginia

Never get tired of our beloved mountains. Wasn’t able to be in East TN during the peak leaf color week (Nashville was good that week though). Thanks for the picture, I didn’t get to see them looking that pretty! I drove through the gorge the week before the peak week... but was sorry I missed the leaves when they were at their best!

I’ve heard Tony Northrop talk about a method to recover files. I’ve never used it, but made a mental note about it because in the past I would have liked to have known about it.

My original post was hijacked and it was suggested that I start a new thread. My question was do you backup software or do you copy paste to an external drive. I was using software for my backups but since my original post have started doing copy paste, now (because I am a indecisive person) I am having second thoughts. I would like to hear what you do and why.

I stopped using backup software a while back. I had issues with many backup software programs. I personally decided if something happened I would do a clean install of everything anyway to get away from bloat created over time, so I just copy everything (all important files - pictures - Adobe styles - fonts - etc) using a program called Beyond Compare. There may be a better program now, but I've used it for so long....it's just a habit. When I get a new computer, I've found it's just easier to get started this way. I usually run Beyond Compare about once a week. So far it's worked for me.

Saw this article awhile ago and thought I may try this after I retire. I have a lot of slides that need scanned.

All the above plus Biltmore. If you go before October 7 they are having the Chihuly Exhibit there. Go there even if it’s after the 7th.

We have a farm an hour west of where you will be, but visit that area often. Plenty of things to do outdoors. Mountains are beautiful and you won’t run out of this to do and see.

Canvas on Demand. They are having a sale right now. They have always been very helpful if you have questions. They produced a canvas for my daughter that was supposed to be 16x20 but said it would look better at 19x20 and produced it at the same price as the 16x20 (on sale) for my daughter.

You may want to rent a few lenses before you buy one. I rented many lenses before I purchased the ones I have now. What I rented and thought would do what I wanted....didn’t. I ended up trading in my 2 cropped cameras and all my lenses and purchased a FF (5D Mark IV) and 4 L lenses. When I took my first pictures with my new camera and new 70-200mm II 2.8....my comment was ‘Now that’s what I’m talking about!’. Of the new lenses, the 70-200mm is my favorite, but not sure how it will work with your camera, thus my suggestion to rent the one you think you want because you are the only one who knows exactly what you are looking for. As we say in the business I’m in ‘Inspect what you Expect’.
