I think your crop goes a bit too far, IMHO. I tried it myself and found that if I included the activity on the field, it made a bit more sense. In that way, we could see what he was watching so intently. My crop was at the break in the bench on the left and just beyond the player with the ball on the right. I then adjusted the vertical sizing to bring the image to a standard size, with more of the crowd than the empty field.

I did more or less the same thing, but used a 16:9 format to emphasize the action.

Will Full Frame kill off APS-C ?

Cheers

Much as I still love my Sony A6000 for its size and weight, I am finding that I am using my iPhone more in those situations where I don't want to carry my FF A7Riii. I think APS-C is will eventually get squeezed out between smartphones and FF the same way compact cameras got squeezed out.

I am not sure the background blur is helpful.
I am also unsure what story the photo is trying to convey.

I think the depth of field is too shallow and the area of sharpest focus - the insides of the cookie is under exposed. You can't see the texture.

I think the DF was intended for those who missed the look and feel of their old film cameras. A mirrorless Df will probably have to have the look and feel of a DSLR.

Compressed air risks blowing the sand deeper into the guts of the camera. You can get a small USB powered vacuum for a couple of bucks online that might be a safer bet. They are not very powerful but may be enough.

Being the expert you are, have you for any reason changed the ratio?

Not an expert, but one situation might be if you have a specific frame or mat you want to use. Some frame and pre-cut mats are harder to find than others. Frame your shot with the corresponding aspect ratio to make sure you get everything you want in the picture.

The Master in You is an evolution of the monthly Master's Critique. Here we will give you a "topic" each month with some themes to consider. Shoot some images with the topic in mind and then post them in this thread and tell us about them. Where did you shoot the image? What are your concerns and challenges with the image? How much, if any, consideration did you give to gear to get the image you wanted? You might also wish to address the themes that are mentioned along with the topic.

General guidelines: This is an open thread where you are encouraged to post your original works and discuss them. Please post only your own work. Do not post edits of another member's work unless you have asked that member for permission to edit. Remember that some people do not want their work edited by anyone. Please respect that. The topics will be active for one month at a time. You will have the entire month to ponder and work on the subject. Feel free to post at any time during the month. You can post more than one image. If you shoot more than one image on any given topic, you may make several submissions. That way we might be able to stimulate some conversations that act as inspiration or, at least, incentive for others to go out and try the topic themselves.

The original purpose of FYC was to be a "cafe" atmosphere where people gather to discuss topics pertaining to photography. It is hoped that this thread will encourage members to get out and shoot images that pertain to the topic and then enter into a discussion about your posts and the posts of others. This monthly topic is not about : "That is really nice" or "two thumbs up". While these are certainly legitimate responses, the aim of this topical thread is to throw a wider net. It is hoped that we will discuss what works and what does not work so well. If someone's work does not appeal to you, feel free to say so in a way that acknowledges that we all have different ideas about what appeals to us.

Topic Of The Month , August 2021: "Less Than Pristine "

Theme 1 How do you approach this topic Mechanical decay, industrial, urban decay, or rural buildings falling apart? What do you look for?

Theme 2 Processing: When do you say "too much"? Do you visualize post processing, or let it come to you?

For some time now, I've wanted to shoot the SS United States. This is the fastest Ocean Liner to cross the Atlantic. Her last voyage was in 1969, and she is presently docked in Philadelphia while a conservancy group is trying to invent a future for this once proud ship. The dock area is closed to the public. So, I had to photograph her from the street on the far side of a chain link fence. I wanted the photo to remind the viewer of a bygone era in travel, so I tried to make it look like an old photograph. I should have shot in film; but I did not on this occasion. (Maybe in the future). I did use "film" presets in NIK. I also cloned out the lines that keep the ship from floating away from the dock.

I thought this might be a good example of: "Less Than Pristine". Of course we are interested in discussing this photo; but we also want to see your examples of "Less Than Pristine". From your archives or shot recently, the choice is yours. This topic will remain active for the month of August.

Moderators,

Is that ship the SS United States? I sailed on it back in the mid-50's. It was majestic back then.

hello.
i think i might take a break from photography. i feel like i’m not good enough for this hobby.
all my pictures haven’t been the best recently.
it’s also a expensive hobby as well.
i’m not saying i’m giving it up but i think i might take a break.
thank you for everyone who has helped me get to the point where i was.

No harm in taking a break. I haven't done much since Covit quashed my trip to Greece last year. With Fall in the air I am starting to get the itch again.
Look for a Photography class or course in your area. I always find them a good stimulus.

I need your help when it comes to using multi filters on my camera. I currently have a UV and a ND filter on the camera lens now. If I want to use a cross screen filter or a red filter should I remove the ND filter when I am adding extra filters to the lens?
Thank you for all your help.

Why do have an ND on unless you are trying to reduce light for a long exposure or wide aperture in bright light? Only use the filters you need to get the effect you are looking for. More filters mean less light and more diffraction etc.

I have a PDF, a photo book I created, that I would like to share. The problem I keep running in to is that the file size, 59.9MB is too large for either my email, AOL, or Dropbox to accept. Is there any way that I can break the PDF into smaller pieces?

I just learned how to do it today. I had to break up a similar sized file of engineering drawing pdf's. In pdf-Xchange, open the file, open the thumbnail sidebar, select the number of thumbnail pages you want to break out , go to the 'Organize' tab, select 'split', select 'pages', select 'copy' and where you want to save it. Acrobat has similar features I believe but you will need the 'Pro' version, not the 'Reader' version.
