Nice batch of pix, thanks for sharing. Wow, it has been a few years, < 12 since I have been to a drag race. I attended the meets in Pomona three times. Watched this years Arizona Nationals on TV Fri-Sun.

They had to run some of the Pamona Winter National finals at this event. I'm guessing because of a weather delay at Pamona.

Great set. I haven't been to a drag strip since the 1960s but through your pictures I can feel the excitement and smell the nitro

The Sweet smell of Alcohol and Nitro Methane is a good way to start the weekend.

Very nice set! We don't know similar races here home...hence those pictures are interesting (at least , to me!).
I wonder what happend in the last picture: there is a kind of "fire/flame" floating in the air, just beside the car, quite nearby its carrosserie...how a flame could be produced here in the air, far away from any potential fire source?

The flames are produced by the Nitro Methane fuel they burn in these engines, which makes up to 12,000 horsepower. Did you notice the heat waves behind the car? They have to rebuild these engines between every round. I have a few photos of the pit crew with the engine disassembled.

I went to the Gator Nationals last year...first time in years. I'd forgotten how noisy and smelly ( burnt rubber and fuel ) it was. Damn, I loved it.

Ditto. Nothing like the smell of Alcohol and Nitro Methane in the morning.

Great shots. I read that this is the last year at Firebird. Hope they don't tear it down for a parking lot.

Last year was supposed to be the last, but new blood has been infused into the facility and they claim it will be here for many years to come. It was sold out and the best National event I've seen.

It was a perfect day Saturday after a windy wet Friday. Today was another good day. I managed to get to the Saturday event for the first drag race I've been to in 20 years. Things have changed a bit. Force is still doing his thing, Ron Capps has put a bit of weight on, but still doing good. Greg Anderson took Pro Stock. I don't recall all the other results, because I was too busy taking snap shots. Here are a few.

Why do Metal prints look so good? Way better that my wide format Canon printer! I have Lightroom, Photoshop and all the Topaz programs. We just got back from Alaska and Fabulous Metal prints were Everywhere!

Maybe similar to Metallic paints, the reflective material and the incredibly smooth surface.
I use Polar Gloss Metallic 255 from Red River Paper when I want a similar look.

They promise to build a bridge even where there is no river.
This actually happened in Lake Havasu AZ. Although McCullough wasn't a politician per se, but he did build a bridge in the desert, then dug a channel under it.

Karl Marx was the author of the saying” Religion is the opiate of the masses”. Today, that is no longer the case. Today, it is the cell phone that is the opiate of the masses. It boggles my old mind how these people cannot put down their devices to walk, drive, or eat. It’s is just amazing to me, and I hesitate to see how much worse it can get.

As I walk over to freshen up my cup of coffee, while reading your post.
