HI folks! I'm back as PP Forum co-moderator. There has been a lot of ugly behavior here this week, but I've locked the most contentious topics and now we're going to move on. If you have a personal problem with another user, take your argument to private messaging or The Attic.

Please review the revised section guidelines here, including the paragraph about unacceptable behavior. I'm confident that everyone knows how to offer constructive feedback, advice or observations. I'm equally confident that responding to well-intended comments (even if negative) can be done graciously. If you don't have these skills, this section is not for you.

I've decided to go back to how most of UHH is set up regarding editing: no edits or alterations may be done without OP's permission. Some users give blanket permission (or refusal) in their signature line; some may prefer a case by case basis. If it's not clear, be sure to ask.

Constructive suggestions for section improvements are welcomed. Many thanks!

Interesting shot with good technique, but the reflection at the bottom is not in harmony compositionally and is just a distraction to the content.

I disagree. I think that without the reflection the image looses something and becomes ho hum

"What do those 10K home sewing machines have going for them?"

It has to do with overall robustness, size of the "arm" so big quilts fit, "digital" embroidery "and much more".

A ha. The digital controls must be a large part of that. You can't get more robust than a saddle stitcher.

I have heard rumors that Nikon was going to produce XQD cards and I have heard that CFexpress is going to replace the XQD cards and be physically compatable with one another. In Nikon cameras, will that require firmware update? During black Friday and cyber Monday I was looking for a deal on 120MB card, nothing. So, before buying a Sony XQD card, I thought I would ask what is happening now and in the months to come. I don't need another card but nice to have insurance and flexability. I do like how fast they upload large files.

The one we DIDN'T get was $10K. It was 1/4 inch too big for her sewing cabinet.

Our sales rep was excited because she was taking home her new machine that day. It had been in the "back room" while she's been making payments on it. She said her husband (1) didn't know, (2) would never know and (3) wouldn't notice the difference when he finally saw it. There is a reason they are all painted white.

Would your wife notice if your camera suddenly say D850 instead of D750 on the front?

Incredible! I just did a quick check and today's leather stitchers have much better features ( they can sew through 7/8 of an inch of leather as slow as 3 seconds per stitch))and still are priced around 3K What do those 10K home sewing machines have going for them? Wow!
LOL my wife wouldn't know if my camera could suddenly sing opera. Let alone what was printed on it.

My DW tried to trick me into showing her my newest wishlist camera. Not wanting to spend the family funds I declined. Before the day was over, I was spending $3K on a sewing machine "for Christmas".

Good grief! It's been some 20+ years since I stopped making saddles but back then 3K would have bought a stitcher that could sew 16oz leather (~1/4 inch thick)!

Nice looking B&W. Well done!
And looking at how steep those stairs are I bet you didn't have to wait very long to shoot them empty.

I, too, have written to ADMIN. I am displeased with your flimsy attempts at character assassination.

Since those of you seeing racism seem to be incapable of rising above emotion and prejudice to the level of reason, let me help you.

I could have written;
"Jawohl, mein commandant. Your orders ist mein command!"
or some other such.

Why didn't I? I've no real idea, except that I am much closer to black kids than other oppressed. They mock uppity, privileged whites in that manner. That you did not know that might speak volumes about your position and racism.

I am through with this thread, not wanting others to have to hurt their minds with the nastiness thrown around here.

You, ugly, and the rest need to wise up. Racist? I taught in Project Upward Bound, helped in the Hough in Cleveland, lived in black neighborhoods, and to this day continue to tutor and mentor in a local community.

That you jump to that conclusion in your desperation is but another example of your irrational dislike, and personal attacks.

Clue: check the dictionary for iRONY.

Where you taught or where you "helped" obviously didn't teach you anything. that phrasing is a racial slur and your claim of irony doesn't change that.

I’m so excited. I finally found one on eBay with low shutter count. Should be here soon. I’m starting my kit with the D610 and the 50mm f/1.8G I still need flash and camera bag. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I am also looking at a Macro reverse ring or a used macro lens.
My Pentax will be my backup.

That is marvelous news. Congratulations!

I would have thought that someone who claims to be as knowledgeable as you do would perceive the difference between being hated - which takes more energy than you are worth- and just being despised for your displayed character.

Dave, through out this thread there is an often employed technique by AB. If you don't like the message, attack the messenger. This, next of mine, might be seen as following that technique but, I find this from Bob deeply offensive on many levels, "Dang me! Ah jes loves da bossy massa.”

I could indeed, but that would be a lie. Your hatred is a poison.

Dislike of one persons abuse of others and a distrust of their avowed goals could be interpreted as hatred by someone desperately in search of acceptance.
In this life, as I taught my children and grand children, the only thing worth hating is hate itself.

It's sad that you are so ignorant of copyright law and art/photography practice, even though I have tried to explain it to you.

For those unsure of what is and is not doable in or with your photos: Copyright law PROTECTS my use of JoeJoe's photo. There is a huge difference between my modifying his photo in my personal expression (protected) or my copying it and selling or advertising it as mine (🚫 forbidden).

i fear that the narrowness of JoeJoe, or perhaps more accurately, his brazen broadening of even the "editing" rules here on UHH, coupled with the acquiescence of the powers that be, lessen respect for this generally helpful site among professionals.

AB I'm sorry that you have been cursed with a defective "comprehender". As has been pointed out before what is at issue with your use of other members work is not the copyright law but the rules of this website. This site. although open to the public, is a private enterprise. This entitles it to set its own standards and rules of behavior. You insist on violating that and then attempt to justify your childish behavior by offering your interpretation of US copyright law. Sorry but in this private enterprise US Copyright be damned, it does not apply.
