All,

Thanks for the advice. Taking action- SSD drive, large data drive for data and getting backups squared away

Thanks again

I realize internal drives are better, however my PC is older(5 years old) so I'm worried that putting in an external drive would not make sense

My dell desktop where I've been storing/editing all of my pix has run out of hard drive space, to create space now while I decide on a fix I've offloaded onto a little passport backup drive. I think my best bet is to get and external hard drive and move all my photos to that

Thoughts? Also aware that I probably need additional backup in addition to the passport drive
Thanks!

Hello,
Shooting high school basketball for the first time
Gym is small- roughly only 2-3 feet from end line to wall and a couple feet on sides- most room in corners. Haven't stood under basket- not allowed
Using 70D, starting using 70-200 2.8 but found it was a little too tight when my team was on my side of court- better when team was at the other end of court.
Have also used my canon EFS 18-55 2.8 to get more "better" shots at my end
Shooting at 3.2, 640, iso on auto- generally comes up at 3200 or 6400.
My issues- focus- I'm using center point, but I'm missing a lot need to get used to the quickness. Using AI servo but it seems like in order to capture a full scene I need to zoom out a like and then crop to frame it right when using servo
Any tips for a better take rate?
Here is one of my shots- reduced file size

Ok need to delete this post because nobody is understanding what I am saying. And yes I got from authorized Tamron dealer under warranty, etc, etc.

My point was that I contacted Tamron CUSTOMER SERVICE with an issue with their product and received no response- not even a "we're sorry to hear that"
In my mind if I contact a company from which I bought a defective product and they wanted me as a customer they should at least respond, regardless of which dealer I bought it from- again in my case an authorized dealer.
So consider this post dead

Tamron has no money in the pot so why are you bad mouthing their service?

Don't get this comment- they have no money for customer service? Its their product and they don't have money to support it?

I would expect some customer service. I would expect a quick reply that "We're sorry you had a bad experience, we have high standards blah, blah, blah" Is called customer service for a reason and responsiveness is one of the primary tenents of good customer service

So, after lots of analysis paralysis including rental of equipment I decided to buy a Tamron 70-200 2.8 for my Canon 70D. After receiving the lens in the mail from a NYC establishment, I mounted the lens on my camera and, guess what, the zoom is so tight I can barely move it one handed and certainly not with my camera up to my eye. Called Tamron, they said "nope, shouldn't be that tight, send it back to where you bought it". After sending the lens back followed up with an email to Tamrons customer service department- not even a BS response back. So now I'm debating pulling the trigger on another one or saving for the Canon which I found too pricey to begin with. You would think Tamron would have followed up if they are interested in customer service- doesn't say much for them

Hi all,

I was shooting a dance recital dress rehearsal with my Canon 70D, rented Tamron 70-200 lens.
Was shooting shutter priority at 320, continuous burst.

What I'm seeing as I look at these on the PC is that exposure is all over the place even at my 6 FPS or whatever the 70D shoots at. One shot will be at 2.8; next one would be darker at 3.5 next one at 4.0 for example. I was hoping given burst shooting exposures would be relatively the same
Any thoughts here?
Thanks

All,

Thanks for the responses. As usual for me I need to shoot more and engage in less analysis paralysis :)

Hello,

Dumb question here from a novice. I understand the way aperture works but not sure I understand the practical need for large apertures. If I get a lens capable of 1.4 or 1.2 yes that's great for low light but my DOF is so small that I'm not sure how practical if shooting people for example- Am I missing something?

Thanks

If you have the money sure, there are a lot of other options in between. Have you diagnosed the problems with image quality? Is it definitely the camera or are you having problems with the settings? Do you shoot in program most of the time?
In other words do you feel like you've used the camera to its fullest capabilities? If not maybe stick with what you have and "learn" to shoot better pictures. Otherwise getting a 5D3 is like buying a Ferrari and driving it in automatic
