I think all of us got the word out that Samys is a good place to shop in person and on the internet. Thanks for all the positive replies.

I have really enjoyed purchasing in store from Samys at their various locations over the years. I typically find the staff very knowledgeable and friendly. I have used their Santa Barbara, Pasadena, Costa Mesa and Santa Ana stores. Never ordered on line.

I ordered the lens 9/1 and received it mid morning 9/3 (Sat). That's almost as fast as ordering in person :)

I checked. Tax was under 6% so it wasn't CA tax.

I don't know but I assume the tax is Az rate since it is shipped here. I'll check it out.Thanks.

Just wanted to let all know that I started ordering from Samys about 18 months ago when they had a lens or camera in stock and no one else did. I was amazed at the fast shipping and fast arrival time. I started ordering from them more often and have not been disappointed. I had the occasional to talk to customer service once and it was a positive call. Part of the reason for the fast delivery is because the merchandise comes out of S. California which is obviously much closer to me here in Az than NY. And they usually ship the same day the order is received. So if you live in the West you might want to give them a try. It's nice to have alternatives.

Well done-
I like the changes in lighting from foreground to background and the clouds are the icing on the cake!

All nice- first one is the most interesting, I like the exposure and contrast of the 2nd one and the third one has the least amount of interest- kind of bla.

Very peaceful looking. I was just thinking that Arizona and Colorado have the most beautiful cloud formations.

This is generally a good idea - except it only gets you to 600mm equiv. and you NEED to get to 840mm equiv. or MORE. I am not aware of a 1.4X extender that works with that lens ....

The new Canon RF 100-400 mm lens is compatible with both the 1.4 and 2.0 teleconverters as are the 600 mm and 800 mm f 11 lenses. With the 600 mm f 11 lens no T/C is necessary to get to 900 mm equiv focal length although a sunny climate is essential.

I have an old D800 and only two lenses AF-S Nikkor 28-300mm/f3.5-5.6G ED VR and a Tamron SP150-600mm f/5.6-6.3 Di VC USD Model A011

Looking towards a mirrorless but not in my immediate future
Thought the Nikon mirrorless Z7 II with a FTZ adapter would work for my 28-300 Not sure of the Tamron

The Canon mirrorless EOS R6 would be a logical competitor but much more expensive because I would need new lenses???? (not sure of that)

I mostly take pictures of my birds with my Tamron zoomed all the way out and use a dx crop to get a digital magnification on my focal length to about 900..

Used to shoot manual but am switching to priority mode with a auto iso.

Not totally camera tech savy but would appreciate any comments / recommendations in "plain speak"
I realize the cameras may be above my current level but think I have it in me to learn. This will probably be my last camera and will essentially be the purchase of a lifetime for me.

Linda- I have the Canon R6 and R7 cameras and am very happy with both. The auto focus systems on those cameras are excellent. When I first got the R6 I was using the Canon mount 150-600 mm lens with adapter and it worked very well. But that was a lot of bulk and weight with camera, lens, adapter. That may not be an issue for you but many switching to mirrorless are also trying to go smaller and lighter including me. The R7 is slightly smaller than the R6 but still very comfortable to hold. Both cameras have deep hand grips making them comfortable to hold for the long haul. Not knowing your budget it's hard to make a recommendation although there is something to be said for starting new with lens and camera rather than piecing together what you already have and making your next camera purchase primarily based on that. Especially if this is your "lifetime purchase".

Zeroscaping and gravel are necessary in the SW if we are to preserve our water. We don't manage our resources well and drought has been an issue for many states for years now. And still the developers build new homes, removing most of the natural foliage and replacing that with plants and trees needing still more water. Check out Lakes Mead and Powell- they are at an all time low level and they are major reservoirs that provide irrigation and water to many areas. The Colorado River has been overused for irrigation and it is nothing like it use to be. California is an ecological mess with years of drought and fires. I don't know the answer but I hope someone does before our water resources are depleted.

As a continuation of the predicament the Nevada water situation is in, the water district is still paying $3.00 per square foot to replace natural grass with something else. Now many people believe this is good because it saves water, right? But replacing natural grass with plastic turf is wrong in so many ways; You lose the carbon capture of the grass, you kill the earth under the plastic turf so no insects can survive beneath it, You expose more plastic to the sun and get polluting vapors, rabbits have nothing to eat etc. So let's hear how the global warming extremist elite view this one! Is there a universal agreement?

Interesting. I'm not an advocate of plastic grass however with natural grass add the fertilizer used to green the grass and the pesticides used to kill weeds and insects including mosquitoes that multiply in the grass and where is the balance? In Arizona we grow gravel in our yards.

I bought the D7500 when it first came out. Such a furor because it only had one SD slot which was a deal breaker for many. I loved the camera and would have it today if the Nikon 500 mm PF lens had come available. I was using it with the Tamron 100-400 mm lens but wanted more reach. But after waiting a year for that lens I finally sold the camera and changed to Canon for the 100-400 mm lens with extender. Biggest mistake I made buying the Canon 90D camera although the lens was great. As soon as the R6 came out I sold the 90D and good riddance! As I look back through my photos taken with the D7500 I am still satisfied with the camera and lens combo. I don't think you will regret buying that camera.

The kit lens is fine- small, lightweight, decent image. It is not what I would have ordered but like you I found it was the only way to get the R7 camera right away. It is cheaply made with a plastic mount. You wouldn't want to take it out in inclement weather or bang or drop it.
