Shots taken at various times at Riparian Preserve in Gilbert, AZ. This is a wonderful, easy to manage (nice flat walk to easily carry equipment) water preserve right in the middle of the desert. There are 9 ponds, any of which can be full at any time, used to filter gray water back to the aquifer. Depending on time of year, many migratory birds congregate. I've even seen a pelican there.

Really nice set, but I like #7 the Canadian Honker.

Nice pictures Mike. I got your #4 with a lot of snow about 20 years ago, coming from Tahoe, at least you got some colors in yours..

Last week.

I like to go in January for several reasons including no crowds, good light, ability to drive where you must take the busses in season, and usually lack of haze. Alas it was a bit hazy last week. Fortunately Lightroom dehaze helps quite a bit.

Made the first pano in Lightroom from 4 RAW images with D5300 and 28-300. This isn't with my best lens. Still working the images and think I have a potential pano with my best lens but need to find it. The second is with the D800 and 16-35.

When the USS New Jersey was in Long Beach, California.

When was this picture taken? Back in 1966 or1967 the New Jersey was stationed there in The Long Beach Naval Shipyard. At that time I was stationed in Marine Barracks on the Naval Base until I left the Corp in Sept 1968. We had to provide security for it. At that time it was either on its way or coming back from a tour of Viet-nam.

Just spent a wonderful few days photographing birds in the cloud forests of western Ecuador.

There are 132 species of hummingbirds in Ecuador and about 60 of them are found in the areas we went. We identified 29 different ones but I have no idea yet how many I actually photographed.

I do know I especially wanted to capture the Booted Racket-tail. He is a tiny little guy with a body about 1 1/2 inches long. Total with his tail and beak is probably about 4 inches.

Photographing flying hummers is especially challenging here in the forest during the present rainy season. Most of these were taken with my D800 at 3200 to 6400 iso. PP in Lightroom. I'm very pleased with how it controlled high-iso noise. Most were shot with the new 200-500 at f 5.6.

Hope you enjoy. I won't guarantee when I will be able to respond due to hit and miss internet here.

I am glad that these hummers are getting along. I have a bully male hummer in my yard that chases away all other birds.

I have 2 feeders on my front porch, and a male hummer trys to control both of them. I enjoy sitting there watching them chase each other..

That big Brown truck dropped off my new Nikkor 70-200 f/4
and Yesterday was such a nice clear day here in Los Angeles,
That I decided to check it out at the Kenneth Hahn Park. Here are a few Pictures of the Humming Birds that are feeding on the feeders (at least 10 feeders) and there seems to be Hundreds of Hummers flying all over the place.
Also included a picture of Downtown L.A.

This is a beautiful state park with a small two lane road runs thru it. The name of the road is Avenue of the Giants.
The sun filtering thru the trees and the dark shadows was too much for my camera to show as it appeared to my eyes.
Many of these images were exposed for the bright areas with checking the histogram for not clipping the blacks on the left.
This is the first time I have tried to lighten up the extreme dark area in an image.
I’m not pleased with the results. It’s the best I could get with my limited skills.
I might have achieved better results if I had captured raw files. Maybe, I'll work on that.
If you are traveling thru the area, I hope you'll spend a couple of days checking out the area.
10 images.

Thanks Pat for sharing your pictures of the Giant Redwoods. I have been to Sequoia National Park a few times and without a super wide angle lens its hard to capture those giants in all their glory. I never been to Humbolt Redwood State Park, But I am gonna look it up on my map and make the trip.. Thanks I enjoyed your pictures...

I got one of them and I love it. All in one tank color but the portability more than makes up for that. In the past I had two 4x6 printer's, an HP and then the Epson Picture Mate. The iP100 doesn't take up much more room than the Picture Mate but printing to 8.5x11 on the front seat of the Bronco more than makes up for it. I don't do photography for a living but if I did, say school sport's, dance school's, ect, I would take it with me every time. I take it to field trials all the time and I do sell photo's on site, photo's that if I let the person go home and think about it, they would forget it. I also have an enclosed trailer for a mobile dark room that has a spot for my 13" printer. Since getting the iP100, I never take the 13" any more.

If the photo is worthy of blowing up, the 4x6 or even 8x10 will remind them of it. I've had a number of people get 4x6's and then get a hold of me days later wanting enlargement's.

A big issue with the iP100 is the ink tanks, throw away a lot of ink when one color runs out. But I don't find that a problem. I can print enough 4x6's on one set of tanks to way more to cover the cost. I don't miss my 4x6 printer's at all.

I use to have the Canon IP90 printer, which was great, but after about 5 yrs of use it finally gave out. I then bought the Pixma IP100 and the Lid 210 canon high rez portable
color scanner. Now my wife would take her 17" Laptop and put all three in a Portable rolling case. Now she had a Portable rolling office wherever she went. Since then I bought the newer IP110 printer with Battery for my wife (it has WiFi ) built in so now she can operate her office without power anywhere..
