I have a D300s and a D800. You can be sure that your D300 will take excellent photos, and probably continue to do so for many years to come. When you change format size, you are changing far more than the camera body. In all probability your lenses will be for the smaller format, and not full frame, and that is where the real expense comes in. I see that several members have advised considering the D800 series rather than the D610. I would also agree with that. If you are going down the full frame route, then that is the way to go. I would suggest looking at what lenses you would want, and buy them first. They can be used on your current system, and by the time you then get round to the body, who knows what will be available ? The D600/800 series could well be the D300 of the day.

I print at 900 x 297mm. This is because I can get that size as cut paper, which will go through my R3000 without hastle. The other way is using roll paper. I haven't gone down this route as yet. Looking at it though. Thise gives a framed size of just over a Metre wide, which is managable without having to buy a stately home to hang them in. (I have a staggered hanging of 4 on the stairway.) With reguard to paper, you should be able to get the paper in the USA as the support for technology tends to come from the States to UK, not the other way about. I'm sure it will be available, it's just a matter of searching it out.

Just one bit of advice with panos though. Double check your horizons, then check again, and use a spirit level when hanging them. They are not forgiving when it comes to such matters.

Keep on taking them, but be careful, they are addictive. You will find yourself thinking in letterbox format. Portraits could be an interesting challange.

Grandpa, while I may not like some of the photographs in this section, that is due to style, not content. I do not think I have as yet seen any photograph that is in any way offensive. Keep up the good work you are doing.

I'm pretty sure that there was a 9D variant that had the controls reversed.

I think that was Alpa, and if you look at older cameras, there i s also the Ihagee-Dresden Exa and Exacta cameras. Neither of those survived into the digital age.

Many thanks watchcow. As I said it was many years ago. I never saw one in the flesh - way out of my price range in those days. I only saw it advertised in AP. Now you mention it, the Exacta seems to ring a bell as well.

Many years ago (60's ?) there was a camera for the left handed. If my memory is correct it was called the ALPHA 9D, and was Swiss. I think that is the only leftie I have heard of. Of course a left handed camera is not quite the same thing as a camera for single handed use. I would be interested, being a southpaw myself.

I have a Canon G12 as a back - up to the back - up. (Don't tell anyone) It's getting on in years, but you can still pick them up on the s/hand market. As far as I'm concerned, cameras have viewfinders, and this fits the bill. Gives good results, fits in the pocket, shoots RAW, and won't break the bank. Not a super zoom, but good enough for most.

Spot on Captain C. Photography needs a reason, and that picture seems to be a pretty good one to me.

When some one says I'm a pro and you are not, Think to yourself " you are an a$$hole and I am not."

Got it in One !! The issue is not about pro / non pro, but about the person making the comment. When someone values your worth by if you are a pro or not, what is their value in life. Just smile and move on, show that you are a pro in where it matters - in life.

I have just (quite literally) downloaded the cc package. To answer a previous question, the LR5 is identical to the one in the box. The only thing it has done on mine is move the icon location oln the desktop. All catalogues etc remain the same.
I have issues however in that I cannot get Topaz to transfer from CS6 to CC. I'm sure there will be a way, but I haven't found it in the last 10 minutes or so. Time to start learning again.

Jerry you could well be right. Thanks for the web page. I've bookmarked it for future study.

A couple of these are bars, one is a bookshop (previous post) but most of them appear to be residential. I agree with you Jerry, but there seems to be very little publicity about them. I have about 30 different doors so far, but as I said, there are other streets, so watch this space. I went to take flower pictures, but these made a very welcome diversion. The street is virtually empty during the day, but comes to life at night. Too noisy for me then, but I'm a KOS (Knackered Old Sod) so I leave that to the youngsters.

So these are all in Portugal. Very nice. They must attract a lot of tourists.

If anything they seem to downplay them. I thought that there was only 1 street, but I now believe there are 3. A couple of these are from a small town on the north of the island.

I'm going back again in September so I'll allow a bit more time to explore more fully. The main street is quite narrow, with tall buildings, often casting dense shadows, so it can be a bit tricky trying to show them at their best.
