For fast action, higher frame rates and faster speeds MAY make it easier to grab the precise moment you want to capture.

If you photograph in churches or theaters, or at events where shutter noise is forbidden, electronic shutter is amazing. No one notices while you make hundreds of exposures!

I use a two-second delay and electronic shutter when copying slides, negatives, and prints. I never worry about vibration.

Thank you. I know I can always expect a thorough answer validated by experimentation from you. Meanwhile, I found this. https://www.canon-europe.com/pro/infobank/electronic-vs-mechanical-shutter/

Why use the electronic shutter rather than the mechanical one?

It’s interesting as the original image on both my phone and my laptop are not nearly as dark but posting here and on instagram the image gets much darker.
Not sure that it’s serious but I appreciate the critique.

I find that when posting jpg's here that I have to brighten them 2/3 stop in LR. If you have this as a raw, you should consider working on this shot. It is worth saving.

I like the pose and the off-center placement. However, the darkness is a very serious problem with what is otherwise a very good shot.

We have some excellent music here in Chicago to choose from.

Yes, it is called WFMT and WDCB.

For someone "someone who leverages existing hardward (sic) and software investments to exhaust every last penny of value", you should still be working in the darkroom! I do miss the darkroom but you could figure out a way of doing it there. I have an idea; how about you. The new Adobe masking tools would knock your socks off but I am sure you know that already.

I find your monochrome original very much nicer than most of what I have seen here. Thanks for posting.

I liked only the last one although the color balance is off. Too bad that object in the lower right is there.

I rarely if ever have had to wait. The people are great. I use them when I cannot find something on YouTube. I prefer the videos so I can see exactly what is happening and can replay the important sections.

The Adobe usually get on to my machine so that is a real benefit, especially if the problem may be hardware or OS related.

A lot of opinions here but not much science. I evaluate my lenses with Reiken's FoCal. The first relevant conclusion is that the old saw about being sharpest two stops down is true. Once you go down another two stops or so, the sharpness falls off dramatically. The second relevant conclusion is that you get what you pay for. The more expensive professional lenses are noticeably sharper than the cheaper kit lenses.

I have this wonderful lens and use it on Canon bodies. I spent an extraordinary time checking the focus with several stationary targets including the original post shows. I tried the dock. I found these methods not worth the effort. And another lesson learned was that judging sharpness by looking at your photos does not tell you if the lens is focusing properly. That bird in flight could indicate the system is focusing short.

I bought the Reikan FoCal and found it was the way to go for me. Save your time and money and stick with FoCal.

Watched this fascinating video. Amazing processes. Would love to have a Sigma Art lens. I'll be on the lookout for one. BTW, the next video that cued up was the process of making potato chips. I skipped that one.

I recommend against buying an Art lens. Once you have it, you will want to replace all your other lenses. The pictures are noticeably sharper and the lens noticeably heavier. Look for a used one.

Fascinating. Went too fast and a narration would have been nice. Talking about nice, those Sigma's are nice. All I own. Never had a problem.
