I have the Sigma Sport version, and you say it had the propensity to take under-exposed pictures, I don't find that mine does, but that is not the fault of a lens it depends on what your exposure triangle is.

Agreed, it sounds more like operator error. I have the Sigma Sport and never had that problem.

I just examined all of my Nikkor lenses and every one of them has an easy to find serial number on them. Most of the serial numbers begin with US but not all. The lenses were all made in Thailand or China. The ones made in China all have the US prefix on the serial number.
I'd speculate that if your lens has no serial number, Grey market isn't the issue, it's probably a knock off...

Do you honestly believe that a reputable place like B&H is going to sell knock off products?

I purchased a 50mm F1.4 lens from B&H. It was not advertised as grey market. Looking closely at the web page it says "imported" but then all Nikon products are imported from Japan, so that didn't trigger an alarm with me.

web page that the lens was purchased from:
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/97413-GREY/Nikon_1902_AF_Nikkor_50mm_f_1_4D.html

Yet when attempting to register it with Nikon, I noticed it does not have a serial number. Nor was there a warranty on the included paperwork. It says "made in china" on the lens. No warranty no serial number. It must be a grey market lens. And I don't want it. I have requested a refund from B&H. I will advise the results, here.

When it says "imported", it's "gray market". There shouldn't be a problem getting a refund, however you may get stuck paying the return shipping.

Depends upon the bird. Larger birds such as raptors glide in predictable paths so a tripod works well. The tripod lets you track very easily. Smaller birds are much faster and less predictable so you may be better off holding by hand even though tracking can be a lot more difficult.

True, I have used a tripod-gimbal head combo, and a monopod when shooting Herons and Cormorants, but in those cases, the birds were not high above the water.

Now's a good time, as both the Sport and Contemporary are on sale. If you can handle the weight, I would suggest the Sport.

These were all hand held. Shooting BIF would not work very well using a tripod.

I have almost decided to spring for a D850. I would trade my D800 in. My question which of the "Big Three or other" camera stores is likely to offer the highest trade in value? I have spent more money over the past years at one of the two biggies, if that may be reason to chose it. shutter count is 3956! I use my D750 more.

My question is, if your not using your D800, why would you want a D850?

Maggie,

Thank you for reaching out to us. I wasn't sure on this one so I talked to a few of the production supervisors to see if this was in tolerance or out of the ordinary enough that we would consider it a mistake. After looking at the images they said this didn't really look abnormal or out of line. It would be hard to compare to other labs since we wouldn't know which types of materials they're using and how tight they're stretching their canvases. I do apologize that you're not happy with it! My concern is that if we remake this for you, you still might not be happy with the out come. Let me know if there is any other information I can provide!

Maybe have them take a look at their own website. Those corners IMHO are not acceptable, PERIOD!

I have been taking pictures since the 60's my first good camera was a Pentax 35mm. I used it all over Europe when I
was in the Air Force. I bought a 2x extender to help my 105mm lens bring things a little close. I actually used it more for
a close up lens, I thought it worked better for that. About 10 years ago I upgraded to a Pentax K2000. I was pretty happy
with that but I thought my old 35mm actually did a better job. About 3 weeks ago I upgraded again to a Nikon D5600
and love this camera, the pictures are great. I travel out west frequently and would like to have a telephoto lens of
about 500 - 600mm. They are pretty pricy $1300 - 3000. I'm not a professional and take pictures as a hobby. I have
been looking at teleconverters. I see that Nikon has a Nikon AFN-S Teleconverter TC-14E III 1.4. That would bring my
300mm to the equivalent of 420mm. Has anyone used a teleconverter? My main problem with my old 2x was that things
were a little grainy. Right now I'm just investigating my options. I would appreciate any feedback before I go further
with this. Thanks

I use the Sirui P-204-C Monopod and the Sirui L-10 tilt head with a D810 and Sigma 150-600 Sport. No problems holding that combo.

I payed the $69 USD and upgraded from DxO 11. That was a mistake. It simply does not work correctly. DxO 11 works better. Fortunitly I still have the earlier version of DxO and still use it.

I downloaded the trial version, and going to stick with DxO11

The version 11.X update to iPhone/iPad uses the new HEIC image format. I typically simply connect my device and copy the images to my PC so they can be cataloged in LR. However, with this update, the images are simply not available in Windows Explorer.

I've made some cursory searches for a remedy, but have not yet found one. Can anyone shed any light on a method to get my images from the device to my PC?

Thanks in advance.

How's the battery life? Seems like there are a lot of complaints about the battery draining exceptionally fast.
