Loved Concorde. Flew it many times. Never got boring and met some pretty incredible people on it. Sat next to Goldie Hawn, Sydney Pollack, Terence Stamp, and Maureen McGovern. My father became good friends with Luciano Pavarotti although I was not on that flight.

Interesting fact, due to friction on the exterior, even though it flew at 60,000', the plane stretched and shrank 9" per flight. Could be visibly seen on the interior of the plane, in the galley where the countertop was tight up against the wall while on the ground, a gap developed wide enough to fit your hand during flight. Fascinating engineering feat.

We also auctioned off all of the Concorde parts and memorabilia for BA when Concorde finally shut down.

Really miss that plane.

Robert ... Did you ever fly an Air France Concorde, and if so, do you recall if this steel and plastic flatware designed by Nathalie George was used during dinner service?

Why do people get all hyped up over pancake lenses?
Do they buy just to be hip but never use them and go back to the standard range zoom lens after a couple of hours leaving the pancake on the shelf collecting dust?

I bought an inexpensive vintage Nikkor 50mm f/1.8 SERIES E pancake lens on the recommendation of The Angry Photographer. The lens was made in the early 1980's in Japan. With its chrome ring, it looks great on my Nikon DF and D850. While it's a manual focus lens, it's easy to use and takes great photos, and it's so small that it fits in a pocket for portability. The lens' size makes it unobtrusive for street photography and produces excellent results with deep and rich colors.

Was browsing YouTube the other day when I ran across a video by Scott Kelby and friend entitled "Why Shooting in Manual Mode is Outdated....". Has anyone else seen the video and, if so, what do you think of his point of view? Not sure I completely buy into everything he says, but he does raise some interesting thoughts.

As Ken Wheeler has said in many of his “Angry Photographer” Nikkor lens reviews on YouTube, “You’re not a photographer if you can’t shoot in manual.”

PS... I shot close to 10,000 35mm slides using the same configuration as yours, except mine were shot using autofocus. Results were excellent. See attached photo of me and my dad in 1951!

While digitizing old 35mm strips of B&W negative film using the ES-2 Film Digitizing Adapter, my D850 suddenly froze. I couldn’t even turn it off. A warning message was flashing “Err” on the top LCD display. I researched this issue on the Nikon site, but besides trying to swap batteries there were no other ways to fix the problem, except to send it for repair. Nikon describes this error message as a hardware issue that cannot be fixed by resetting the camera, which I couldn’t even try because nothing was working anymore.

I’m interested to hear from members who may have experienced this hardware failure and how much Nikon charged them for the repair, assuming their camera was out of warranty.

Below is the configuration I was using:

2018 Nikon D850 with ~ 5000 shutter actuations
ES-2 Film Digitizing adapter
AF Micro NIKKOR 60mm f: 2.8 D (lens set on Manual focus)
D850 body set to Manual focus
Exposure Mode set to Manual
Focusing from “Live view” with MC (monochrome) selected
Remote shutter actuation via the Nikon WR-R10 + WR-T10
Prior to starting taking pictures I performed a Clean Image Sensor.

At least one good news, I just found out that Nikon still has a repair center located in Signal Hill, Southern California, which is ~ 45 miles north of where I live. I had read somewhere that Nikon had closed all their repair centers in the US except for one located in New York State, well that was wrong.

Make sure the aperture ring on the AF 60 Micro Nikkor 60mm is set and locked to 32. Not setting it to 32 produces an ERR message on my D850.

I learned about the need to re-format SD cards after purchasing my first digital camera (Olympus 4040) in 2000. After about six months of taking photos and deleting images, the camera suddenly stopped working. I brought it in to my local camera store, and one of the employees told me I needed to not only delete old photos on the SD card, but also needed to re-format the card. Once I re-formatted the SD card, the Olympus camera started working again. Since then I've always deleted and reformatted SD cards every time I transfer photos to my computer, and have never had the problem again.

I had a similar positive experience with MPB when I purchased a "used" 35mm f/2 ZF.2 Carl Zeiss Distagon T lens a few years ago. Looked brand new in box and even came with a Zeiss lens hood. Very pleasant experience!
