Use some coarse sandpaper to scratch the bonding surface of the magnet for better adhesion.

3M 5200 is great stuff, extremely strong but takes a looong time to cure to full strength, (like maybe a week). High humidity helps speed the curing process, misting with a spray bottle of the bare surfaces as well as the finished assembly is helpful.

Oddly enough, I think I lean towards color for this one. What say you?

Thanks!

This photograph is all about color harmony and how the colors enhance the effect of the geometric lines directing your eye to the tiny subject. B&W, nah.

Thanks but I am not up north right now. Maybe in the Spring. You should sell the blueprints for that gadget.

I would love to hook up with a fabricator who could refine the design and produce a few for sale or rent.

For anyone interested in building their own, give me a call and I'll talk you through the process.

I stood next to Dik last March/early April. This is quite some gadget which comes apart and folds up nicely in his trunk. He looked very comfortable. Folks looked at his photo's for sale, although I didn't see any sales. After standing all day, his price seems like a bargain for that last hour. PS, in the spring, afternoon gets the best light.

Thanks for posting Judy, if you can make it to the dam Sunday, you can do a free trial shoot.

I've been getting serious about shooting BIF for some time now. All of my practice has been hand-held. One or two images have been sharp, but not tack sharp. I'm shooting with a Nikkor AF-P 70-300mm on a D7100. After my last outing I decided that I needed to be using a tripod. So began my search for a head. What I discovered is that because my lens does not have a lens mounting collar, a Gimbal head simply won't work. I didn't realize that when using a Gimbal head, the lens attaches to the head rather than the camera being attached to the head. My question for the experts is: is there a ball head that can be used on my very substantial Manfrotto tripod that will enable me to follow BIF with almost as much smoothness as the Gimbal head? I've never seen a ball head in use, but have perhaps an unfounded perception that a ball head cannot come close to the smoothness of a Gimbal. Surely, for those of us who do not have long lenses that have mounting collars, there must be something on the market that will enable us to do BIF with 300mm collarless lenses. Thanks for your help...Bunkershot

I strongly recommend a gimbal head for BIF. is your current lens has no foot you should use a long A/S QR plate to balance your camera on the gimbal.
Another poster recommended a rotating chair which is an excellent idea, and if you add a counterweighted boom to the chair, you can shoot the bird wherever it flies.

Thank you for the sharp shots. I also noticed that this eagle could also use a bath. The white remaining tail feathers are not exactly white any more.

If you look at the group shot, you'll see that they are very white when front lit. The sun shining through the white feathers creates the dirty look.

Highly unlikely. The swallow is more of a nuisance. I am sure that the eagle will have a few peck marks but probably nothing more. I have seen a sit eagle "attacked" by a hummingbird. The eagle did not even pay attention to it.

What do you think caused the missing feathers?

Looks like a swallow. Fear of death is not an option for a defensive parent. I witnessed two robins harassing an in the tree sitting Coopers hawk when I was much younger. One of the robins made the mistake of going too far below in front of the hungry hawk. The chase was absolutely amazing, but the hawk got a robin meal four feet away from where I stood. As the hawk stood for a minute on its meal before flying away with it, it showed no fear or interest in my being only four feet away from it.

Can you tell male or female?
