I want to test several of my new "A" mount lenses prior to planning which to take on a trip. These include Tamron 28-300mm f3.5-6.3 Di PZD, 70-300mm f4-5.6 Di USD, Minolta 28-135mm f4-4.5, and 70-210mm f4 (Beercan). My test will be at 100mm for each lens, and I have two questions; First, should I shoot in raw or jpg? (my jpg files out of the A99 are the best I've seen from Sony)
Second question is, should I also shoot the Minolta 100mm f2.8 to compare sharpness, or is that asking too much from the zooms?

You know, I never understand these types of “discussions”. A member comes up with a patently wrong idea from someone on UTube making a click bait assertion, and they defend it to the death no matter how much proof is provided. Just had one the other day that went on for 5+ pages about the idea that the max aperture of a lens changed (by the “crop factor”) when mounted on a crop camera. I don’t think he ever gave up despite all the proof to the contrary. Is it really that hard to read the opposing evidence and just say: “you know what, I was mistaken - thanks for the correct information”?

I work on a Mac and had been using Lightroom 5 for years, first for cataloging and organizing as well as editing. For the last couple of years I've been using it mainly as a DAM while using Luminar 4 for editing. I recently upgraded my OS to Catalina which disabled some of the functions on my old version of LR. I have uninstalled LR and figured I'd use Luminar 4 as my cataloging program. It leaves a lot to be desired in that respect. So, I'm looking for an alternative. I do not want to go to the subscription for Adobe creative cloud as I have never used and don't wish to learn Photoshop and you can't get LR alone. I've been doing some internet research and have looked at Capture One (rather expensive) and ON1 Photo Raw (a little more reasonable). Both of these also have editing capabilites - not necessary for me but a nice bonus. Reading about various programs on the internet is one thing but hearing real photographers experience with these programs is better. The ability to use keywords is important to me. Any advice and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
