One of my favorites (NOT) was castor oil. That stuff seemed to run right on down to the colon and on to my underwear. To say it was nasty is an understatement. Later on my mom switched to ExLax. That more than did the job, but I needed to remain in sight of the bathroom until it cleaned me out.

In 1999 l took a San Diego harbor cruise. As we approached Coronado Island he mentioned it was home to the Navy Seal school and that Steven Seagal was a former Seal. Since that was not mentioned in the bio above was it simply omitted or was it not true?

Steven Frederic Seagal (/sɪˈɡɑːl/; born April 10, 1952) is an American and naturalized Russian actor, screenwriter, and martial artist. A 7th-dan black belt in aikido, he began his adult life as a martial arts instructor in Japan[2] and eventually ended up running his father-in-law's dojo.[3] He later moved to Los Angeles where he had the same profession. In 1988, Seagal made his acting debut in Above the Law. By 1991, he had starred in four films.

Re his bio: several years ago (1999)I took a San Diego harbor cruise. The guide took us past Coronodo island at which time he mentioned that the Navy Seal school was located there, among numerous other “well off” residents. He also said that Steven Seagal was a former Navy Seal. If true, the above bio did not mention that. Any truth to this?

I'm glad that I have a supply of incandescent lightbulbs. Remember when a 690 Watt bulb used to be considered medium brightness? Now, I have LED all through my house, and each one uses about 1W of electricity.

However, the incandescent bulb still has its uses, especially in providing heat. Imaging a lava lamp powered by an LED.

In my case, though, I need a "hot bulb" to thaw a pipe in the bathroom. The supply pipe for the downstairs toilet is in an outside wall, and with the temperature below zero, it froze again. I kept flushing it every so often, but I guess that wasn't often enough. I have a hole cut in the sheetrock so I can easily insert a bulb and place it right under the pipe. That thaws it within an hour. I should put heat tape on that pipe.

I think you still need an incandescent bulb in an oven. How about inside a fridge or microwave?

My fridge has led lights; not sure about my microwave. I think the light under the micro may be a neon.

I think I've watched the movie, "It's a Wonderful Life" almost every year since 46'.
Sure I know every line and scene, but it's an emotional experience I want to repeat every year.

Happy Holidays!! Most of the time, it really is a "wonderful life"!
Mark

Hi Mark,
One of my favorites as well. Got a commercially made “colorized BlueRay dvd“ version; will not bother to view the black and white version again. Also, got the colorized version of Holiday Inn. The scene with Fred Astaire doing a solo dance while lighting off firecrackers in color is, in my opinion, 100% enhanced over the b&w version.
Happy holidays to you,
Bill

Do any of you use WordPerfect? I've been using it snice about 1980. When I had to decide what word processing program to get for my IBM desktop, I did what I do now: a lot of research. In every comparison, WP was better than Word. I'm not working in an environment with other people using Word, so I don't have to be compatible, although both programs are basically compatible with each other.

As I was exiting WP yesterday, they had an offer of an update for $39.99 (down from $99.99), so now I have a new version of the Home edition with a few changes. Ironically, I was disappointed the day before when I tried to buy it from Amazon for $70, but it didn't go through - fortunately.

Before Microsoft created a virtual monopoly on most popular desktop applications, WordPerfect and Lotus 1-2-3, in my opinion, were far superior to Word & Excel. I never cared for database applications, but it would not surprise me if Dbase versions were preferred by users over Microsoft’s.

This was our 52nd Halloween together and had a bowl of candy at the ready. Fortunately, only two groups of three T&Ters showed up so we’ll split what’s left between
us. We’ve found that miniature Kit-Kats and plain Hershey’s go equally well with red or white wine.😊

We have a full bag each of Reese's cups and snicker bars. Any wine suggestions to go with these?

Today, my wife and I will be experiencing our 54th Halloween together. In the previous 53 Halloweens we have never had rain. Tonight appears to continue the trend, as rain is predicted later in the evening after Trick or Treat time has ended. The interesting thing to me about this is the region where we live - 30 miles from the Atlantic Ocean in Maryland. Definitely not an arid location. Although my wife and I never had children, she always enjoyed admiring the costumes. That allowed me to enjoy my before dinner martini. However, she now has dementia and is not capable of greeting the Trick or Treaters. Not wanting to be thought of as an old Scrooge, I will attempt to continue the tradition. I am not against Halloween celebrations, but given our cultural changes my opinion is the celebration would be better served to be held at schools ,churches, or various community centers.

Recently, I tried Jardine’s Ghost Pepper salsa. Good flavor, was about near my limit hot wise, but able to finish the jar in a few eating sessions. But I exceeded my tolerance trying corn nuts treated with Carolina Reaper. Two corn nuts was all I could handle at one time. According to what I have read, the “Reaper” is listed as the world’s hottest pepper with Scovill (sp?) ratings in the millions. The jalapeño is rated about a lowly 17-22 thousand units.
I have read that there is a claim of a hotter pepper than the Reaper, but at that time the claim had not been verified.

Short “hot sauce “ story. While visiting a friend in Syracuse, NY he took me to a hot sauce store. Located on a display table was a wooden box containing a special edition of Dave’s hot sauce. To buy it, customer was required to sign a disclaimer. Next to the box was a small dip dish of the sauce that a customer could sample. A hothead had thought he could handle anything hot, so he sampled a bit too much. According to the store manager 911 was called.

Anyone ever heard of the "Greaseman" who was on WWDC? Washington DC Talk about edgy.

Yes., I remember listening to him for a few moments a day while commuting to work in D.C. He was gross to put it mildly. However, preferred Hardin and Weaver for many years before switching to WGAY for some easy music; until that station change format.

I forgot that his orchestra was also called "Leslie Brown and his band of Renown". Was that later, say early fifties?

While my heart will root for St. Peter's, I've been a "Blue Devil" fan for many years. Now I can also root for Les Brown and his Blue Devils.

I grew up listening to Les Brown! Fabulous band!! Of course, I grew up to Harry James, Stan Kenton, Jimmy & Tommy Dorsey, Benny Goodman, Ray Anthony, Glen Miller, Charlie Barnett and others. The hey day of the big bands.

Enjoy this album!

When did Les change his band’s name to “Les Brown and orchestra “? I have a mint 78rpm of Doris Day singing “Sentimental Journey” with his band. Doris was about 18 years old if my memory is correct. Her version, in my opinion, was the best. Record resides on my 1941 model 750 Wurlitzer jukebox. Plays fine.

Just read a news article featuring a recent interview with Melissa Gilbert. She has given up the Hollywood/city life and moved with her husband to what appears to be a secluded place in the Catskills. From a photo taken by Melissa the house appeared to be abandoned- old food containers with food contents still in cabinets, etc. The place is obviously an advanced Fixer-upper. Most everything but the house frame needs replacing. Of course, I doubt that financial hardship will enter the equation.
I rarely read such interviews, but I liked “Little House” and Melissa’s role in the saga.
Most movies she made as a grownup did not interest me. However, she starred in a Christmas holiday movie that I enjoyed. I have the dvd and watch it most every year as I consider it in the realm of Christmas classics. The movie title is “A Holiday Time for Love”. Story content includes love, good guys, bad guys, comedy, and good old fashioned sentimentalism.
Hey, Jerry! You might have a celebrity neighbor in them thar hills😊.

Received the Windows 3000 keyboard. Much improved re sensitive touch keys. Did not know it is a 2009 model and compatible with Windows Vista. Down memory lane 😊. But it works with Windows 10. So, all is well. Many thanks to those responding to my quest for help.

I have always used Logitech since first getting a computer (20 or so years ago and for most part cordless). They have several models to choose from. Definitely have to push each key to activate them. Seem to be perfect amount of force.

Seems most opinion in response to my post agree with your assessment. It is possible that my key resting position is somewhat heavier. Since many keyboards, especially Logitech, according to responses here have adjustable keys, mine might have been factory set more sensitive than average. I will attempt to locate the key sensitive adjustment and try to set accordingly.
