I am traveling to Italy next month and getting my gear in order. I am looking for a wide angle lens for landscapes to complement an EF 24-70 II USM, an EF 70-200 2.8L IS II USM, an EF 100-400 4.5-5.6 IS II USM. What are your recommendations? I'm also undecided as to taking the 100-400. Your thoughts.
Many thanks, Denny

With what you have the 24-70 II would do just fine on a FF. I have that and the 24-105 and I prefer the 24-105 for travel for more versatility.

Fellow UHH'ers.;
Started a new informal learning class on photography. I need to submit photos related to the class to be used in training presentation.
Using Nikon's Vnx2 software and just learning Photoshop CC (long ways to go). Problem: I need to reduce the MB size of the photos from the 3MB recorded on SD card and downloaded to processing software to 1 MB in order to send as an attachment to an e-mail to the class. UHH'ers have been great with info, so, hoping to get some good information on how to do this.
Thanks.

My husband and I are heading to Peru for 3 weeks in September. Our primary purpose for going is to explore the headwaters of the Amazon and especially Manu National Reserve, but we are also visiting Paracas Bay/Isla Ballestas, Mancora, and Machu Picchu, and will be bouncing back into Lima in between. We like solitude and try to avoid crowds (hence Machu Picchu was not a high priority, but at the last minute we decided to add it on the itinerary...), especially photographing wildlife. Has anyone been on a similar trip? What advice would you give a first-time traveler to Peru? Adventure ahead!

Iquitos is a place to add to your itinerary up north that is well worth visiting near where the Napa and the Amazon rivers meet. From the Paracas area try to fit in a visit to the Nasca Lines. If you're up for adventure a sand dunes buggy ride is exhilarating along with the plane ride over Nasca. And ofcourse a stop at ollantaytambo along the way to Machu Pichu from Cusco and a hike up Wyanapichu.

Have planned a trip through the park consisting of up to 5 days and I have several places picked out. What would you toss or cherry pick?

1) Waterrock Knob.
2) Soco Falls.
3) Mingo Falls.
4) Clingmans Dome.
5) Gatlingburg Scenic Overlook.
6) Cades Cove.

I am an early morning and late night (also pronounced all night long) photog so crowds don't bother me.

You should be able to get all those in, in 5 days. For sure Cades Cove in the early morning before the crowd takes over else you'll be crawling bumper to bumper all the way, esp. on weekends. Between Memorial and Labor day motor traffic is precluded till 10 AM on Saturdays allowing bikers the free run of the loop.

Also check out Roaring Fork if you have the time.

I would be taking pics mostly at dusk and dawn and possibly during the daytime, I have a D3400 with 77mm to 300mm lens and 18mm to 50mm lens.

I'll PM you a link to an album and you can see what results I have and see the metadata for each frame. You'll see that I have used a wide range of varying settings. The shoot was at daybreak in Kapadokya, Turkey.

Space is tight so a long lens won't work, I have a canon 24mm f2.8, 10-18mm f2.8 & 40mm pancake lens. I tried my 18-135mm 5.6, but it was too cramped to really work with. Any suggestions are welcomed. I shoot a canon 70d.

Perhaps "Apaflo" who lives in Alaska will chime in on this.

Last year I had a similar opportunity and I shot with the 24-70 on the 5D3 and the 70-200 on the 7D2 and got satisfactory results.

Hi, I'm starting to organize my photos and backing them up. So far I've transferred folders to an external HHDD, but I want to copy them to a tablet so I can take them with me and view them without a computer. At this point I'm not interested to load videos or music, and the internet speed, if any, is secondary. I don't want to expend a fortune, and I'm interested on the lower price I can get, and still have a reasonable quality.
Can anybody advice me on what would my choices be? I'll appreciate your help

Hi ya'all. Going to lake Como region for a week long walking tour. Debating as to taking my 7dll with 100-400 and wide angle or buy a bridge camera probably Panasonic fz1000. Hate to give up my better gear and I will be carrying it in camera backpack with a couple lighter items. Go with heavier tried and true or lighter bridge. Thanks, stefrie

Take both setups - It won't do you much good if it's back home when you might need it on the fly.

A lot of good information has been provided. So instead of repeating let me just add .... purchase the book "Walking the Blue Ridge" by Leonard M. Adkins. It has the mile marker description for the entire Parkway. I think I picked my copy up at the Linville Falls site many years ago but probably can be bought online. We live not too far off from the BRP and it has come in handy on the many visits we make every year.

Here's the link for the referenced book ...
