So far the D500 totally blows away the Z6ii for wildlife in the experience I have had. I have both and a D810 all of which have certain things that they are better at than the other two. I will keep all three and use each one at the appropriate time where their strongpoint is an advantage.

I also like the DSLR for macro as the Z cameras can not lock on to focus on low contrast shots and will focus on the background where as the DSLR locks on to the subject even in low contrast.

Any benefits to switching between adapter/f mount lenses to newer Z mounts?

The Z lenses are better glass than the G or E lenses. I have 6 Z lenses and 30 G and E lenses.

I recently purchased this lens from B&H and when I attach it to either my Z6 II or Z7 II and go to the custom control menu in either camera the aperture ring displays for customization, but the L-Fn button does not show for customization. So far I have not got an answer from B&H, Nikon or some others on utube that did a review. Has any one else purchased this lens and can answer this question?

IF I understood correctly, the USB connection will charge the battery.

THE END OF THE WORLD IS COMING!!!!

I believe I am correct in saying you can use the USB to charge the Z7 II, but not the Z7. I had both cameras, but sold the Z7 and Z6, now I just have the Z7 II and Z6 II.

Is it likely that Nikon mirrorless cameras will catch up with the capabilities and quality of top end Sony mirrorless cameras? As someone with a bunch of Nikon lenses - it’s daunting and expensive to consider a shift to Sony. I shoot mostly wildlife and birds in flight so high FPS and good performance tracking capabilities are important.

All mirror-less cameras from all three have auto focus problems on low contrast shoots with Nikon being the worst. I found this true for both macro and wildlife photography. http://rayhennessy.com/blog/2021/06/07/nikon-z6ii-for-wildlife-photography-follow-up-thoughts

But isn't sky replacement (without disclosure) claiming the image is something it isn't?

No unless you claim it was what was taken by the camera. A photograph is something you want the viewer to see, not nessesarily reality unless you are a photo journalist or sports photographer. Take portrait photography, very seldom do you leave the photo untouched the way it came out of the camera, you try to make the subject look good, otherwise it is a snap shot.

Wondering if there's anyone here that used to shoot color film. I am curious how prints were made from color negatives then. I know Kodachrome had to be processed by kodak, but what about prints?

Did you just put the processed color negative in the enlarger and dodge and burn the print as if it was black and white?

Thank you!

For color work I would send the unprocessed film to National Color Lab and they would possess them and send me proofs for my clients who would select what they wanted and I would have NCL process the final print. I did B&W processing in my darkroom, but color was to hard to get right.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, Les Paul!!

Enjoy,

I remember their TV show broadcast from their home. I have a CD of some of their recordings and at one point I owned a Les Paul guitar.

Do any of the Z cameras offer focus bracketing for stacking like the D850 does. I did a quick scan of Nikon’s website and did not find an answer.

Has anyone used the Z mount teleconverter 2.0. Nikon says there is no loss of image quality. I assume it does cut down on light. Also, does anyone make extension tubes for Z cameras. I do not use the ZTF converter.

MEIKE MK-Z-AF1 makes an 18mm and 11mm extension tube, they contain all the electronics and work well.

Am considering the purchase of a Nikon 500mm f5.6 PC

Does anyone have experience with this lens using the Nikon TC lengths 1.4x 1.7x and 2.0x?
I noticed the 1.4x is the most expensive

I am asking about how well this lens will work with the various TCs...thanks for any input or output

The following picture is an example.

Some people like the AI side of Luminar others do not. I personally use it very seldom and go to Edit immediately which is almost like version 4.

Three questions directed only to users of the Nikon D850:

1. What is your "go-to" zoom lens of choice? Why?

2. What is your favorite prime lens? Why?

3. I photograph paintings no larger than 30"x36", and I need a prime that has little or no spherical aberration. I've found that my zoom lenses impart a curvature to the paintings' frames that need to be straightened out in post. I've used the nikkor 35mm prime on my D500 which eliminates that problem, but I'd like a full frame lens equivalent for my newly acquired D850. All suggestions much appreciated.
