Hello friends,

I also have Lightroom and am in the process of moving things to a new external hd. As I understand this - and I do not fully but learning - the reason that you're getting the question marks is because LR doesn't know where your photos are. In order for LR to find your photos at the new location is that you have to move the photos from within LR itself OR you have to move all the other accompanying files (catalog files) along with the photos onto the new harddrive and open LR FROM within your new external harddrive.
Confusing? Yes, it still is for me and I still don't fully understand it...hopefully I've shared enough info here that someone else that does understand it better can chime in and clarify. Also, there are plenty of youtubes and other websites related to exactly this, just google "moving lightroom files to a new external harddrive" or similar through google or in the search bar on this site.

No question that Lightroom 6.14 continues to work.

That said, the subscription and Lightroom Classic CC works better. A single example is the Dehaze tool, but there are many more.

Then, as mentioned, you get Photoshop. The problem with it is that it is so complex and full of parts useless to photographers. What Lightroom users do is learn just the most useful parts for them and nothing more.

Finally, you get (cloud) Lightroom which can be largely a useless distraction for 6.14/Classic CC users. But like Photoshop, it can be an accessory to your tried and true computer based workflow. One example is taking a few images you want to show someone, put them in a dedicated collection, sync them to (mobile) Lightroom CC, make a "Web Gallery" and send a link to it via email, text, social media or even UHH!
No question that Lightroom 6.14 continues to work.... (show quote)

Thanks bsprague for you comments! Very valid points for sure and something to consider!

Yet, you can buy a top of the line Mac Book Pro. What part of Adobe offends you so much?

Yes, good question. So, I'm not a professional photographer by no means, and do all my photo editing in LR and have since back before 4.0 (I think). I do not know photoshop and have never used that, and currently don't feel the need at this point to learn it. When that changes, they perhaps the subscription would be the way to go but for now, the LR standalone works for me.

Thanks everyone for the replies and information. Got it solved...I contacted adobe online support and it was all good. The adobe person said to click on the "license this software" (I think that's what the button said) at the bottom of the splash screen. That give you the windows to put in your product serial number. Put it in and bam! LR opened right up! And there was nothing else to do to update it to the 6.14 as when it opened up, it opened as the 6.14. I guess I couldn't get past the little button that said "Start your free trial."
I know the subscription is the way to go for a lot of folks but that's not for me. When the LR 6.14 no longer provides what I need, I'll move on to another product that I can buy.
bsprague, thanks for that link! I'm gonna hang on to that one!

If I remember correctly,You need to open the LR on your old Mac and tell adobe to not run on the old mac . I forgot the expect adobe terminology for this action, since You can only run LR on one machine. Then you can run LR on your new machine and update to LR 6.14.

Thanks for the replies - this one and the previous one
...OK...that makes a bit sense. I'll check that out.

You have to install it.

I wondered about that because I think you have to go from 6.0 to 6.14 using a patch link. Those links are no where to be found now, I guess because of Adobe no longer supporting the product.
But would I need to uninstall 6.0, then do a reinstall, and perhaps then find the link for 6.14? I'm puzzled.

I'm wondering if others have had this issue and how you resolved it. I ran LR 6.14 on my nearly 10 year old macbook pro and just purchased a new macbook pro. I used Time Machine to migrate all files over to the new MBP and only Lightroom 6.0 migrated. Now, on the new machine, when trying to open up LR, it will not let me past the splash screen offering to sign me up for the free trial of LR.
Not sure where to go from here...I attempted to chat with Adobe, told them the issue, and their response was "there is a glitch in the system, contact us back in 4 to 5 hours." Weird. Anyone have a help suggestion?

Great series there! I had the opportunity to visit the canal from the visitor's center and viewing stand. Fascinating experiences to watch the ships sail on by.

I'm planning on taking several hours of pictures of the Geminid Meteor shower at the Trona Pinnacles in Southern California in a couple of weeks. I would like to connect my cameras (Canon 5D Mk III and Mk IV) to power packs via dummy batteries, so I don't have to change batteries, or risk missing shots. What brands and models to people recommend, and do you have any things to watch out for?
Thanks.

Might this be what you're looking for? I've been looking for something to use where I could use my power packs for my 6d mark ii and 7d mark ii. Didn't search for your specific camera, but you might find what you need through this link:

I would give AAA in Concord a look see also Google and Youtube. That is going to be a long a$$ trip. For me, I would fly to the closest city in Virginia and rent a car.

Not a bad idea...fly into Richmond, VA and you're a two hour drive from I64 & Afton Mountain, that's the beginning of Skyline Drive (as you head north) and the Blue Ridge Parkway (as you go south).

You can stop for a few days at Peaks of Otter, near Bedford, VA area. http://www.peaksofotter.com/ Beautiful grounds, great restaurant, easy on/off access from there to other places. It's right on the parkway I think.
Another place would be in the Mt. Airy, NC area. Easy on/off access from parkway to surrounding point. Drop down into Mt. Airy if you ever enjoyed Andy Griffith and Mayberry.

Chihuly was showing here in Richmond, VA at the museum for fine arts. VMFA normally does not allow photography, however, Chihuly had a requirement that in order for his art to be shown, photography MUST be allowed. So, I'd definitely check ahead with the Biltmore.

Quote from the event here in RVA back in 2012: "I visited a new Dale Chihuly exhibit at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts in Richmond, VA today. A guard told me that while photography is generally prohibited in the museum, Chihuly explicitly demands photography of his work be allowed, and that there be no physical barriers between visitors and the glass creations."
