Took the tour awhile ago. Well worth the money. They had an Apollo era Saturn V rocket suspended from the ceiling. Talk about feeling small…..My wife was part of the Planning and Integration Team at Kennedy Space Center (KSC). They controlled all aspects of space shuttle prep…from landing until launch. What a great time to be working there. We, as Americans, really lost out when the space shuttle program closed without a replacement.

There is a site ,“ISS Tracker”, which will give you the position of the ISS based on a city closest to you. ISS is in a pretty low orbit so it looks like a plane with its landing lights on compared to other satellite’s. My wife worked at Kennedy Space Center launching the shuttles which carried the various ISS sections which were then assembled in space. Sure do miss those shuttle flights……..

The Library at Ephesus. Entire city was made mostly of marble. Saw Diana Ross concert at the amphitheater there back in the early 1990‘s. It was televised on HBO.

#2…The Library at Ephesus TU. Spent many days exploring there over the course of 2 years while stationed at a remote US Air Force Site outside of Balikesir TU in the early 1990’s (which was about a 5hr drive north of Ephesus). So much history in Turkey…it was just friggin AMAZING!!! The House of the Virgin Mary (where Jesus‘s mother was hid after the crucifixion) was just a few miles from there as well. While walking the site (which stretches several miles) I came across a small pyramid. It was the tomb of Cleopatras half-sister who went into exile after she tried to take the throne from Cleo. Her name was Arsinoe IV. And the picture of the spice store…I can still remember the wonderful smell…WOW!! Blue Mosque in Istanbul and the hot air balloon’s over Cappadocia. You really had a great tour of the country. Can’t wait to go back after this Covid-19 stuff is over. Of all my oversea tours of duty, Turkey is the country I want to visit again first and maybe spend a month…oh and in case you didn’t know, they have GREAT beaches to relax on! And if you have the time and can stand the summer heat, a charter on a motor/sailer ship called a Gulet is another way to see the country. They can visit small towns and secluded beaches along the coast. And they‘re not that expensive. Enough of my ramblings. Great photos!

Warthog maybe? I can see the lower canine tooth and maybe the other one laying on the ground. With a single spinal disc just below the jaw. Good shot/find!

Saw them butt heads in the parking lot of the Black Hills Play House back in 1977. I didn‘t own a camera back then but it was an awesome sight….even better was that there were a lot fewer people in the area back then…had the drive through the „hills`‘ all to myself. No tourist and the locals had scene this stuff before. I was a new Air Force recruit at my first duty station out at Ellsworth AFB. I was out exploring the area……

Great shots! I haven‘t seen a milkweed plant since I was a kid. Probably 1972 or so.

Was stationed there at a remote site for 2 tours. Of all my oversea assignments, my time in Turkey was the best. People were great, it was inexpensive(at the time the Turkish Lira was 3000 to 1 dollar,1991-when I left in 1993 it was 1.2million to 1 U.S. dollar.) Then the current leader came into power, Lira went to Euro…things got more expensive….BUT I would still go back. I had a Turkish drivers license and was able to see a lot of the country.

Great set! I miss Germany, but am glad I was stationed there for several years while in the USAF. I’m overdue an extended visit now that I’m retired.

Looks like quartz to me. There was a lot of it laying around the Blackhills in South Dakota in the 70‘s. Folks would just pick it up. Nowadays it‘s hard to find there. Guess it made for a great keepsake.

Nice shots. Have you been inside? I was there a couple of summers ago, killing time while our van was being serviced. Lots of displays, took the silo tour as well. Mostly for my in-laws as they never saw this stuff up close. I was stationed as Ellsworth in the 70’s as an Aircrew Life Support specialist. Retrained into 463 career field in the 80’s (missle and gravity weapons), then retrained again in the 90’s into Ground Radio. Was able to show the in-laws all the things I worked on/maintained. The buss driver, who took us to the training silo, was a B52 pilot that was stationed there in the 70’s as well. He remembered me as I maintained his life support gear (helmet/mask) and I taught survival classes as well. Small world. Extremely surprised as to the quality and volume of the displays. Planning to go back next summer.

You can check out Dave’s Camera Review online. He does a full camera review including photo comparisons using the same “scenes” setups. It always helps me in my decisions on camera’s. Cheers

Yes, Korczak’s family is still working on the monument. His wife, Ruth, passed a couple of winters ago. I met them both while stationed at Ellsworth AFB in 1976-1981. I believe he passed in 82 or 83 and Ruth took over the operation. She wanted the face completed 1st to bring in more tourist and donations—-it worked!! Their daughter(s) are on the board of directors, sons run/manage the surrounding forest, lake etc. I see them every year at the annual “UPDATE” of the Carving. And get to see a night blast as well. The blast is open to the public. The UPDATE is given privately to the carving donors along with dinner, then to the public a little later.

Let’s see, 25 years ago CrazyHorse looked much like picture 3. I first saw it in 1976 (Looked like picture 2)while stationed at nearby Ellsworth AFB. Since then the face was completed, Indian museum added/expanded, restaurant added, Indian college added, gift shop added. Rushmore was completed by the government, CrazyHorse turned down government assistance (after the way the government treated the natives he didn’t think the government should be involved) and is only funded with private donations. Korczak was the only artist working on the sculpture at first. In 1976 it would have been considered a tourist trap with nothing there except some white paint on a rock outlining a horse but not anymore. It’s now amazing and worth seeing. But see Rushmore 1st, it will take about 2-4hr to see everything. Then head to CrazyHorse. It’ll take a full day if not 2 to see it all. And a trip to the top is worth the price. For a fee they will take you onto the carving, on the arm in front of the face. 2 times a year you can walk to the top for a donation of 3 cans of food. I go back at least once a year from Oregon.
