You wont see a difference.

But if you want a better SLR the D780 is your last opportunity. As better cameras come along they obviously wont be SLRs.

The D780 would allow me to shoot at a faster speed, and instant focus, wouldn't it?

So you want to buy gear that you won’t use on your trip?

Sounds like GAS to me but If you have money to burn then by all means spend away and enjoy it.

yes, I just got my Insta360 x3 and am learning how to do the video editing. I will wait for another day when the stock goes up again

Do you like the images you get now?, they will not improve any with the D780. My suggestion is to shoot the D610 until it dies, who knows, you may pass on before the D610.

When I pass on, I can also pass on my D610 and the $1400 to someone who would not really care.

Right. Could be worth $1200 to be rid of that. The user would sleep much better knowing that their camera is a genuine "pro" model that boldly forsakes the pop up flash. Sleep is priceless.

It is a GAS with itching fingers

I agree. If your images are not good now a new camera will not change that. You have to ask yourself if the D610 is not doing what you need from it. It has excellent resolution with 24 Mp., a decent control of noise and its AF good enough for a majority of applications.
Now, you said you have OK lenses, not that I know what is exactly an OK lens. Modern lenses are of excellent quality and I have several old ones that have outstanding resolution. Have you reviewed your techniques? I own a D610 and to me it is all the full frame camera I need. When it came to image quality it never let me down and I use it most of the time with a 28-105 AF-D or a 24-85 AF-S.

If you think you have "OK lenses" perhaps what you need is a good lens but to repeat it again, make sure you are using good photographic techniques before wasting your money. Jack Dykinga used to say "Concentrate on equipment and your images will be technically good. Concentrate on seeing the light magic colors and your images will stir the soul."

I also have the 24-85 AF-S on most of the time on travel as well. One of the reason for updating could be the low light shooting. A D780 would allow me to shoot at faster speed and instant focusing. Am I right about that?

You are probably right, unless the stock market goes up just like today for another day.

Today I saw Adorama has a D780 (used, very good V for $1299) for sale. I am still using my D610 with many OK lens.
Is it a good deal and should I care about its shutter count? Can anyone tell me what would I expect to see the difference if I update to that model?
I have an issue, I would bring my X-T10 and Insta360 x3 for my coming trip to China because of their portability. I don't want to carry too many lens for travelling because of my age.

About the only old gear are my mechanics tools because they haven't made anything better to do the job, and firearms because the oldies need love & other reasons😎😎

How old is considered old? Any songs after "My Life Will Go On" are new songs. Cars built after 2010 are new cars.
I am still listening to the 60s, 70s songs mostly, driving my newest 2014Prius which I bought 5 years ago. I am still using my 4 years old Samsung A70. I am still shooting with mainly my D610 even though I bought a newer Fuji T20; I just ordered my Insta360 X3 as my second camera for my coming trip to China I am 70 years old but with a last name Young.

I have the Insta 360 oneX3. This is my third 360 camera. I have taken it to Africa, Cuba, Italy & Iceland, but I always take my Sony cameras & lenses.

A great little camera is the Sony DSC RX100 Mark VII. I also take this with me where ever I travel. I have 3 full frame Sonys, usually only take one and then this one. It is a bit costly but it is an awesome camera.

Key Features
20.1MP 1" Exmor RS BSI CMOS Sensor
BIONZ X Image Processor & Front-End LSI
ZEISS Vario-Sonnar T* f/2.8-4.5 Lens
24-200mm (35mm Equivalent)
Up to 20-fps Blackout-Free Shooting
UHD 4K30p Video with HLG & S-Log3 Gammas
0.39" 2.36m-Dot OLED Pop-Up EVF
3.0" 921.6k-Dot 180° Tilting Touchscreen
Fast Hybrid AF, 357 Phase-Detect Points
Real-Time Tracking and Eye-AF

These were taken with the 360. I can take one image and then process it about 5 different ways.

Thank you for showing us some creative shots.
I believe yours is the Insta369 One(1"sensor), Besides pictures/videos from fisheye to wide-angle. can it take a decent shot of landscape or city lights, and does it have any zooming capability?

I am considering to buy one as a second camera for travelling; I am still using a D610 and don't want to carry too many lens.
Does anyone have experience with them, which brand or model do you recommend? Can you post some of your best shots.
Can they be used as a regular camera with good zoom and wide-angle range?
Will the resulting pictures be acceptable on a 40" monitor?

I think it has to do with the GPU Graphic Processor which I could not activate in the Edit/Preference/Performance
