Thanks all. So I tried the experiment in my dimly lit living room from iso 200 to 3200 and the best looking shot on my computer monitor was iso 1600 (which happens to be what the automatic ISO setting chose). I didn't notice any objectionable noise but at iso 200 the shot was blurry as the exposure was .5 sec @ f2.5. Interesting.

I have read many posts and watched instructional videos and almost every pro says using ISO settings below 200 is where they prefer to shoot -- even in dark conditions. I understand that very high ISO settings tend to introduce noise, but going up to 1200 or 2400 with a camera that goes up to 12000 seems like it should not be a problem. Why do so many limit their ISO below 200?

I am a part time landlord and face this regularly. I try to take my pictures on cloudy days or just after sunset when I can. I also use adapters that plug into the wall into which I screw in 5-6K led bulbs to light the room close to daylight. Adjusting the white balance properly before shooting takes away the yellow or green tint from incandescent or fluorescent bulbs. My new panasonic lumix LX100 has an HDR setting that takes 3 shots and combines them into a single HDR image in camera that could be quite useful for this purpose. I just tried it at home and it was better than with it off but the sun just went below the horizon so it's not the best test.

Got sent home from work a few weeks back after an ice storm caused a power outage. The roads were not bad so I did a little exploring with my camera on the way home and got these. It was just beautiful that day.

If you go into control panel and select the application there is often an option to repair it.
Check the forum's for lightroom - might be suggestions there.
Uninstall and re-install. Hopefully you have your license information saved somewhere.

My Trinity is:
f1.8 35mm
f4 12-24mm
f3.5 18-300mm
When I'm traveling I leave the 12-24 at home because the other 2 cover most everything I need.

Photography has been a lifetime hobby - recently re-visited. I'm approaching retirement and expecting to have time to get back into it. I currently use a Nikon D3300 and a Lumix DMC-ZS100. I'm currently learning Lightroom and am toying with HDR using Photomatix. I have also been toying with night photography for a few years and love some of the things a higher ISO allow you to do.

Looking forward to learning and sharing.
