Welcome Akron, OH...Go Buckeyes! Nice compilation, you should post a single of the totality image, looks good.

Thank You, Europa! I'm just starting to get a little more involved in the Astro side of Photography. We had a nice Refractor scope when I was a kid but did not appreciate the value of it at the time... Now it's starting all over and realizing how little I actually know...

Anyway here is one of the Total Eclipse. I forgot to take my filter off early enough to get the Diamond Ring and Bailey's Beads. That and working with the 10sec delay caused more than a few missed timing shots. My Diamond Ring coming out of Total Eclipse is about the size of a 100 crt or more.

Hi Terry!
Welcome to the insomniac side of imaging.

Looks good!

Thank You SonnyE for taking the time to look in and leave a nice comment. This is the image I kept seeing in my mind before even going down to KY. I know it has severe short comings, but it still shows the progression I had in mind.

This is my first post on this particular forum so forgive me if you've seen your fill of the 2017 Great American Eclipse. I just finished taking some of my shots and created a progression Photo in GIMP (also a first using GIMP) I was fortunate to be at the point NASA called the point to be, about 12 miles West of Hopkinsville, KY, also called Eclipseville. What a Terrific experience.

I lost focus partway through the series... but you can still make out the progression.

I hope you enjoy it. Any suggestions for improvement would be appreciated.

It was actually a "daystar" filter I bought on the internet (B&H maybe??). A flimsy cardboard rim holding a thin plastic film of very dark plastic. But it only needs to survive until the 21st of this month, so hopefully it's OK!

Thanks, I was looking at those. They are out of stock at B&H at this time, but hoping to be back in in time to ship before the big event.

I need to get it big enough to go over the end of the Tamy... so it will be probably the biggest one they have. Going the non-threaded version for simplicity in taking of and putting back on during the course of the event.

OK! So maybe I worded it too loosely... Is any UHrs from Ohio going South to Kentucky to shoot the 8/21/17 "Great American Eclipse" or are you willing to wait for the 4/8/2024 that comes through Ohio?

Very Nice Shot!! I still need to get a filter. What did you use! Must be a Glass top of the line for the color and clarity. Wanting to see what I can get with my 70D Crop sensor and the Tamron 150-600.

I have been practicing photographing the sun, with fairly good results. I am using Canon 100-400 with 1.4 X extender, Canon 70 D, the vari-angle touchscreen can be positioned for easy viewing. I have been getting good results using ISO 400, f8, 1/800, RAW with auto white balance, live view. I have not been able to see a sun spot on my photos. Just wondering how your settings compare to mine. I also have a question, will the filter have to be removed during the period of totality?

If your fortunate enough to be where there is Totality the answer would be yes. ONLY for the duration of Totality which depends on how close you get to the center of the track. It could be a couple minutes in the center but only a few seconds when off to either side a little!
