Epson P800 hand down. I've had it since it came out and its a top quality professional photo printer. Another BIG reason to consider this printer it uses large 80ML cartridges for around $55 per unit. the smaller P600 uses
26ML Cartridges for around $32 per unit. Do the math, much cheaper ink in the long run plus the p800 is a 17 inch wide printer but prints very well from 4 x 6 on up. If you like panoramas thats another plus it will print 4 foot prints, the max I have not tested it. I'm telling you great bang for your buck and another thing because it uses pigmented ink the prints are waterproof from the start.

A very good alternative to photoshop is Affinity Photo. I have been using it since it came out and its rather inexpensive at 59 dollars.

I’ve been using Photoshop/ACR for many years — purchasing updates along the way. Now have PS CS6. Should soon be receiving new Nikon D850. As I understand, my alternatives are to go to the subscription basis for PS CC (which I absolutely do NOT want to do); to convert all the RAW files to DNG and continue to use CS6 (although it’s not clear to me whether ACR will work the same on those files); or, to change to a whole new PP system. So, my questions are:
1). Are any of you going through (or, have gone through) a similar decision process — either for the D850 or for another ‘new’ camera’. And, what did you do?
2). If any are doing the conversion process to DNG, how onerous is that? Does ACR work the same on DNG as it did directly in the RAW files? Seems to me that it’s a bit of a stop gap measure.
3) Lastly, if you changed to a new processing system, which one did you choose? My PP needs are currently met 70% by ACR. Do not do a lot of advanced layering, etc. However, I do use some plug ins like Nik. Plus, minor tools like erase, sizing, etc. I do not do sessions involving hundreds of images (like weddings) so cataloging and sorting is not a major item; Bridge has worked ok for me. As alternatives to PS, am thinking of Capture One. Any thoughts on that.
I really appreciate any feedback. This situation created by Adobe moving to subscription basis irritates me beyond words.
Thanks,
Bill

You can batch edit in lightroom. Edit one photo as you like then in filmstrip highlight that photo and then all the other photoes that you want to batch process. After the highlighting in the bottom right corner SYNC will be available once selected a full menu of available items will se shown. Pick the ones applicable to your workflow and once synced all pictures will have the same edits

I use Affinity Photo and it was designed to be a photoshop replacement and as time goes on and becomes more refined most photographers could see it as a cheaper alternative. Lightroom is an entirely different program

all adobe did was give photographers another option to either store your pictures locally or on their cloud service. I have used Lightroom since it came out and am very comfortable with my own storage workflow but I can see some people liking the new Lighroom CC. They kept the price the same for the new classic CC and if goes up in a couple of years so be it what doesn't go up. The product is still cheap for what you get

I have had the p800 since the beginning of the year and love it. One important thing to consider between the p600 and 800. The ink for the p800 is a much better value. The p600 ink colors are about 26ml and cost around 36 dollars whereas the p800 ink cartridges are 80ml and cost 55 dollars. More than 3 times the amount of ink for only 20 bucks more. This sealed the deal for me

I have been using Affinity Photo for a while now. Its a great photoshop replacement. Its not as bloated as photoshop and is more than enough for photographers. One other thing I think to clean up a photo and remove objects it seems to work even better than Photoshop

Unfortunately, El Capitan will no longer download pictures to Picasa, which many of us who don't want I photos or Photo Shop have used for years. It looks like Apple deliberately made this change to force us Picasa users to use Apple photo programs.

Has anyone found a way to get El Capitan to work with Picasa?

The latest Picasa works fine with El Capitan. Overtime I start picasa the latest pictures I took are automatically included in the database. Remember to check the folder manager to see if its looking in the proper folder with your pictures

One thing you have to remember Lightroom or for that matter Picasa show your pictures, Lightroom uses catalogues and picasa has its own system. I have been using these two programs since they started and each has its place.
You could import all the photos on your computer into lightroom if you wanted
but remember they stay in the ORIGINAl place on your computer, they are not moved at all be it Lightroom or Picasa. Lightroom has the added ability to rearrange or rename your file structure once imported into your catalogue.
Picasa on the other hand is another way of viewing your photos but remember Lightroom edits will not be seen in Picasa. When Picasa came out at the time it was one of the first good programs for viewing and doing minor non destructive editing with the added benefit of free web space to show off your photos. Today there are so many other ways to present your photos that it could get confusing as to which one is the best

interesting i just renamed a folder outside of lightroom and also renamed one file in that folder when i went to lightroom of course both the folder and file were missing there locations. I first located the folder and it was accepted but the picture file was still missing which i had to relocate and once i did it was also accepted.
if what you say worked out for you than i have to keep experimenting. I have found so far that it works folder to file if you lose the entire location of your photos but individually, I have to test other scenarios
