Please, a bit of advice. I love shooting shore birds, both still and in flight. Many are snowy white. I shoot with a D7200 and a Nikon 200- 500 lens, that I love. But regardless of lens, I still have trouble capturing wing and feather texture without a white wash out. I try to keep the light behind me as much ss possible. I can do a good bit with PP, but more advice, sources, appreciated. Thanks in advance great UHHers.

I never use screw on ND filters. Strictly use the Lee ND sheets and hand hold them while taking the shot. No muss no fuss, works every time.

I totally agree. Screw on ND filters are a PITA! Been there, done that, and now using the Lee filter system.

I have thousands of shots with four different Nikon grips and never experienced a problem until I purchased a non Nikon grip. I quickly returned it and paid the ridiculous price for something that works without issues. I like the feel of a grip and it nicely facilitates vertical shots.

I've used non Nikon grips on the D800 & D810 for over 2 years now, without any problems.

I have some Lee ND filters and have not noticed a color cast. Could be stray light not entering through the filter as previously noted.

The Lee 10 stop ND filter will give a blue color cast on long exposures. It can be corrected in post by setting the WB to 10000, or set the camera WB to 10000.
Light thru the viewfinder will not cause a color cast, usually streaks at the bottom of the image.

As shot 326 sec @ f/16

What would be the best exposure setting and ISO speed to get the picture I want. I am pretty new to this.

Try these settings to start.

I also like the way the Sigma Sport plays with the TC-1401 tele-converter. Taken handheld.

Thanks. But I'm confused because I've only had the program for about a month and downloaded only images from my camera lens combos. I realize I can uncheck the box in the corner, but then if I use a camera+lens combo in the future that I have never used before, will the program still prompt me to download the new module?

Just download all the camera and lens modules that you already have. Then this box will not appear. I would just leave that box checked, that way it will appear if you use a different camera or lens. You can also download different modules at anytime.

Never bought from them - like that they give shutter count and describe condition. Will they tell you if USA model?

All the serial numbers shown in the images start with 3, which designates USA.

Thanks - the 850 is out of my price range and don't really need the fast and large buffer as the only sports I shoot are grandkids outside. I've seen used/refurbished 810s for around $2k. I was thinking 810 over 750 for better low light and no anti-alias filter?

Here's some D810's

I would say you are the exception then.

- Are you truly - satisfied with your keeper rate doing this ?? - and are you doing wildlife/birds ??......EFFECTIVELY ? ...............and, are you on full frame where you can turn up your ISO to counteract enormous shutter speeds ? And, is your sucess @600mm ?

Yes, I'm satisfied with the results. Yes, I do wildlife and birds, in fact some BIF are posted earlier in this thread. I'm not saying all of my shots are hand held, as I do use a monopod and tripod-gimbal head combo, especially when shooting Herons and Cormorants. I shoot with a D810, and yes I do have success @600mm.

Think twice before thinking you can effectively handhold this 6 1/2 lb. lens ! - some younger stronger people can - MOST cannot - with any desired effectiveness ! That is the BAD. There are ways to effectively use this lens - but hand holding is not one of them - sorry.

How do I know? I have used the Canon 300 2.8 with 2X - same weight, same 600mm.

Believe it or not, I have had great success hand holding the Sport, and I'm 70.
