I was showing my work in the Ocala, FL Art Festival last year, when one of the directors of the Florida Audubon came up and introduced herself to me. She took one of my cards and said how nice my work was and that she would be in touch. Well, sure enough, several weeks later she was, saying they would love to use this image of the Crested Caracaras on their Winter issue, along with on their Christmas Card. To say the least, I was thrilled!!! :D This was taken at the Viera Wetlands in Viera, Florida.

No problem Bruce, will do that when I get home, thanks!
One morning last October as I was driving into my favorite wetland area, I looked over the reeds and this image is what I saw. The sun was just breaking the horizon. I opened my moon roof of my car, stood up, so I had a clear shot over the reeds, and with my Nikon D7100 and Nikon 300 f/4 lens with the Nikon 1.4TC, got off about 5 shots before all the birds started to move around. These white pelicans and roseate spoonbills just gave me an awesome good morning sight indeed :-) ! This was taken at the Viera Wetlands, in Viera, FL.

Mike looks like you had some great opportunities. Really like the first one. The wingspan and the details are terrific!
Thanks so much for the kind words! They certainly are a devil to get for sure.
Thanks all!! It is quite a camera and I will be learning about getting the best from it for quite awhile.
Thank you all for the great welcome and nice comments of my work :-) !! I am located just on the east side of Orlando. Hope to get to know everyone more as time goes on.
On a recent trip to Galveston Island, Texas, I found a place where there were quite a few ruby-throated hummingbirds. I set up my tripod with my Nikon D7100 and Nikon 500 f/4 lens and set about trying to see where each bird would return time and time again to feed. This was one of my efforts. They are an extremely challenging subject to try and catch in flight with the right background and angle, so I was very pleased with this one. Settings were iso 1600, 1/1600, f/7.1, focusing on one of the flowers they would return to, and a lot of luck :) .

I just love playing with new toys, as in new photography equipment. This time it was with my new Nikon D810. I finally decided to go to a FX body and so far the D810 has been wonderful. This Black-crowned Night Heron was taken from a pontoon boat along the Silver River near Ocala, Florida. The settings were iso 1250, f/6.3, 1/320, handheld with the Nikon 300 f/4 lens and the Nikon 1.4TC.

I kept hearing about this group from several folks and one perspective workshop client, so I thought I would join up :) . Good to meet everyone! I have been a nature photographer for some 20 years, but really started spending lots of time at it when I went digital in 2008, with Nikon equipment. I now show my work in juried art shows in Florida along with conducting photography workshops. One thing I never stop doing is trying to learn to capture the best images I can, for nature is just so amazing.
