I don't think your camera is ir sensitive. Most digital cameras have a filter that block ir. Unless the camera has been modified for it all your picture would be red using that filter.

shot with an old sony dsc-s85 4.1 mp, focal length 9mm, F/2.1, ISO 100 at 1 sec . filter was a neewer ir760. this photo was taken at the bark park at the shakespeare festival in montgomery al. that my beagle sam on the right side of the photo doing what most dogs do best...sniffing.

Have you tried a later version? As far I know all the canon software can be downloaded free.

You may want to look at yongnuo flashes, I have use their flash on my 40d and 5d mkiii.
