I have the Nikon D7100 and have recently purchased the Sony a6500.

I need your valued opinions on adapters and do they really work with the AF-S Nikon lenses? What I have read is sorta grim....but would like to hear from those that have actually used the adapters with these lenses and what was the outcome....

Thank you,
Edee

I purchased and returned the Fotodiox one just last week. It worked, but focusing is very slow. I guess if all you do is portraits and landscape where you can wait for it to focus it would be ok. It was not to my satisfaction so I returned it for full refund. And they are not cheap.. $350-$400 Hope this helps..

I use a Vello, aka Commlite on a Sony A7RII. Works great for me. AF is not quite as fast as with the Nikon, but then I'm not sure of AF speed with native Sony lenses.

Nikon lenses still have partially mechanical focusing systems, whereas Canon and Sony have fully electronic focusing systems, so there is a compatibility problem getting Nikon lenses to work well, even with adapters, on Sony E-Mount. Adapted Canon lenses work much better on Sony E-Mount. Apples and Oranges.

Search Tony Northrop's YouTube channel for smart adapters. He had mediocre performance with Nikon glass on Sony bodies.

I’ve had no use for chipped adapters, but my several Fotodiox products are all of very high quality, on a par with any from Kilfitt, Leica, Nikon or Novoflex.

My good wife just bought me a kayak for my birthday. I am hoping to be able to get some pictures while paddling lots of ponds, lakes and salt marshes here on Cape Cod - so mostly calm water. The kayak (Wilderness Pungo 120) has a small dry seal hatch in front which is too small for the camera and lens. The rear hatch is much larger, but not as accessible. I am told the Pungo is a very stable craft, but accidents do happen and there is always the risk of splashing from paddling or choppy water. I will probably be most prone to toppling over while getting in and out of the boat.

I know water and cameras don't mix, but I don't want to buy a waterproof camera or an underwater casing. I will probably use my A6000 and 55-210 lens mostly (no weathersealing). Any tips for protecting my gear from water damage - technique, bags, boxes, floats etc?

I am hoping to join friends this summer on some kayaking adventures. This will be all new to me. Also, it will be on small rivers...no whitewater. My question to you is, if you are a kayaker, what do you bring for a camera? One of my photographer friends does not bring any of her good cameras or lenses. They seem to have small waterproof cameras for kayaking. All I can think of is the photographic opportunities I would be missing! (Lots of wildlife up here.) All of my gear is insured but that doesn't mean I want to risk it getting dunked.
So, what do you do...dry bag with bigger camera & lens or small waterproof camera? And, if you have a small waterproof camera, how does that work for you? Brand of waterproof camera recommendation?

Thanks for any advice on this.

I own a Canon 80 D which has worked well for me. I'm currently living in Peru where there are endless photographic opportunities. I've been thinking that it would be nice to have a single lens which would allow me to travel travel light without having to change lenses so often. I am a serious amateur photographer.

How much would I lose in image quality or is there an acceptable solution? I'd like to spend no more than $1000 US.
