You evidently didn't read the scientific article I just linked to.... Oh wait, you must have your head buried in the sand !! I know, I know, your mind is made up, don't confuse you with the facts....

Wrong, I read it. Yet water is rising and the ocean chemistry is changing. We will see displacement of populations in our lifetime. I'm all for a balanced view. The discussion and assessment continues.

"Dr Willie Soon, an eminent solar physicist at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics, said: "Our work suggests that Man's influence on climate may have been much overstated. The role of the Sun has been undervalued. Our model helps to present a more balanced view."

Dr David Legates, Professor of Geography at the University of Delaware and formerly the State Climatologist, said: "This simple model is an invaluable teaching aid. Our paper is, in effect, the manual for the model, discussing appropriate values for the input parameters and demonstrating by examples how the model works."

Dr Matt Briggs, "Statistician to the Stars", said: "A high-school student with a pocket scientific calculator can now use this remarkable model and obtain credible estimates of g****l w*****g simply and quickly, as well as acquiring a better understanding of how climate sensitivity is determined. As a statistician, I know the value of keeping things simple and the dangers in thinking that more complex models are necessarily better. Once people can understand how climate sensitivity is determined, they will realize how little evidence for alarm there is.""

Another one of your favorite sources, with lots of innuendo and very little substance. Why not also start links from the National Enquirer.

Next, we will get "news" from the National Enquirer. :?: :?

Stop it with Lib(supply a demeaning ending). How about Republicants, try it with a final "u" republifool$, Repubf___kingcants, etc. Just examples, I will not be using.

You don't see much juvenile name calling from the "other" side, do you? I, personally, will not descend to such childish depths.

You have no idea of what a socialist is. If we are headed for a welfare state (some would demean it with "nanny"), I'm all for it. Cradle to grave, state pays for your educational, health, housing and related needs. Denmark, Sweden, Norway, and similar, the happiest people as reported in numerous surveys.

Needed for life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

When in doubt or you find government doing something you do not like, throw the S-bomb. Or better yet, the C-bomb. Pitiful.

Milwaukee: had three socialist mayors who were members of the American Socialist Party in the last century. Milwaukee did quite well under their respective administrations.

Some of your other posts are reasonable. Shows how politics can drive man insane. See an analyst. With a single payer system for health care, it would be covered. Perhaps even under the Affordable Care Act.

Why is going to Kauai any different than going to Arizona? Why would you take different kit on a 4 day trip to Kauai than you would for a 4 day trip anywhere else? I guess I don't understand the reason for all these questions of this type. Ultimately I guess it depends on what you are going to take pictures of - doesn't it?

Most would be better off just buying post cards anyway. They represent professional work for the most part. Take one camera for shots of self and significant other to show you were there.

Oh, by the way. What sort of stuff should I take to go to wilderness BC in winter, besides down filled clothing, photographer's mittens, and baggies.

Really! That's an intelligent response. Think of what Cyrano would have said.

It GITS ZO ridiculously tiresome.

Imagine how his Wikipedia biographical entry would read.

I'm working on it, but under a storm of anticipated name calling, just as when I disagreed with the playground bully in grammar school.

I can't find anything to rebut in this editorial. He says it like it is. :hunf:

I can find everything to rebut in this article. Bunch of invidious comparisons:

T(hink): is it true? (mostly not)
H: is it helpful? (absolutely not)
I: is it inspiring? (inspires divisiveness, I guess)
N: is it necessary? (of course not)
K: is it kind? (no)
E: is it erroneous? ("you betcha")
R: is it ridiculous? (to most thinkers, yes)

Incidentally, some posters here like to throw the "socialism" word around as a slur word. Of course we have socialist countries such as China, Russia, Cuba, etc., which declare that in their constitutions. They are communist dictatorships, some in transition, but I wouldn't want to live in any of them.

Some would say we are moving in that direction because of the Affordable care Act. Puzzling. One of the few nations on the European model that does not have universal health care.

Incidentally, what American city had three socialist mayors in the last century?

A: Milwaukee. Has had three socialist mayors in the last century. The first was a major reformer, eliminating corruption and other ills that plagued the city. The last socialist mayor, retiring for health reasons in 1960, decided not to run for a FOURTH term. Gee: I lived in Milwaukee and didn't realize we were socialists. Voted as a good place live in many such surveys.

There are other US cities that have had mayors who brand themselves as "socialists." Look it up.

Now let the name calling begin.

Is it helpful? Is it inspiring? Is it kind?

Please excuse my ignorance, but I never heard the term "Bridge Camera" until I joined the UHH. I've been taking photos for the past 40 years, and recently converted to digital. Thank you for your patience.

Did you not even bother to Google this?

First choice. Here's what sprung up instantly for me:

"Bridge cameras are cameras which fill the niche between the single-lens reflex cameras (SLRs) and the point-and-shoot camera. They are often comparable in ...

I used my new SX50HS a lot on a recent 2-week trip and was really disappointed in the battery life. I wasn't expecting that. So now I need to buy extra batteries for my next expedition. Canon says they're out of stock. I see other brands of the same battery available for about 1/5 the price of the Canon, but I need to know if they're actually OK to use. If anyone has EXPERIENCE with other batteries, I'd like to hear from you. What about the ones at Batteries Plus? And I'm told that Best Buy sells a Vivitar battery for the SX50HS. These are local stores so I can just walk out with them, but they're about $25.00 ea. Online I see them for $10 and $15. I need these to arrive before the 25th, so ordering needs to be done NOW.

THANKS!

I've purchased batteries for the SX50 from Amazon with no problems.

Your numbers are a bit off concerning the number dying in Afghanistan, it is 18 for the year 2014 at this point.

I see you have made one of the most favored posts here at the Hogg: "The media is nothing more than lap dogs for BO" Can YOU explain exactly what that means, you throw it out there as an insult explain to us why?

Yeah, liberalism:

"Liberalism is a political philosophy or worldview founded on ideas of liberty and equality.[1] Liberals espouse a wide array of views depending on their understanding of these principles, but generally they support ideas such as free and fair elections, civil rights, freedom of the press, freedom of religion, free trade, and private property.[2][3][4][5][6]" -Wikipedia

Hateful concept, isn't it.

After taking the excellent advise provided here, I looked at and handled many cameras. The one that presently stands out is the Canon PowerShot SX50 HS. I did not notice the timer button at the back, perhaps my hand was too small for interference; however, the lack of a manual except for "online" and all the extras needed like the USB cord, case, extra battery etc. is this a good camera investment for a beginner?

Lots of praise on this camera in the archives if you use the "Search" function. I had one, lost it, and will or will not replace it depending on the SX60 due out in late May. The Panasonic Lumix FZ200 is a good choice too, with its constant f/2.8 lens.

Manualsink.com has a 5.5"x8.5" spiral bound copy of the SX50IS manual available for $17.99, I believe. Google for their site. Lots of camera manuals plus other stuff.

All of the above have an articulated LCD screen, which is great to have on at least one of your cameras.

A great deal of photography is art, so agreement will be impossible. In the technical areas, we get correct answers and wrong answers, so we have to sort the good from the bad.

I wonder if doctors have a forum like this, where they ask questions and get wrong answers. I hope not. :D

"I wonder if doctors have a forum like this, where they ask questions and get wrong answers. I hope not."

Of course they do. Grand Rounds in teaching hospitals deal with how to treat patients and correct mistakes in a treatment path or regimen.

A patient once bounced off the roof of the library. Jumped from the psychiatric unit on the ninth floor. Someone gave a wrong answer whether screens or bars should be provided on those windows.

In a hospital I worked in, "Please send the Green Gurtney to five west "stat!" Generally meant something went wrong. The patient died. Various departments meet regularly to discuss how a death or course of could have been modified. Correcting the wrong answers.

The programs "House:" and "Grey's Anatomy", though dramatizations, sometimes portray the treatment/medical learning process quite accurately.
