Always a pleasure to look at great images! No wonder it was so sharp with that lens. What do you use your 50mm f1.8 for and are you happy with it too?

The dark is more contrasted but heavy. The light has a bit of soft mystery - a woman's gentle touch. She wins
The colours work well to enhance each other in both shots. Your turn next time!

Great one of the moon! Congratulations. Sometimes automatic is not so bad  Which lens did you use for that first sharp shot?
Thanks for sharing and keep clicking.

Thanks for that helpful advice Photosarah. I've got some great close-up shots with my hand held Canon G12 so I'll find it limiting having to use a tripod all the time....Sort of takes away the freedom to be spontaneous. I guess the trade-off is the higher quality. Enjoy the Olympics over there :)

Hi Cotondog,
Nice to hear you are happy with your Canon 100mm macro. Do you find it very heavy and do you have to use a tripod with it?
Do you get really sharp images? If you need to use a tripod I guess a Tamron 90mm would need one too. I'm having difficulty choosing between the two - would prefer the shorter Canon 60mm if I could get the same quality images or close to them!
I usually get very close to my macro subjects. I don't think a 60mm gives a 1:1 magnification though.... Thanks :)

That's great detail. I don't know if a dedicated macro lens would do better. Thanks again. gnd

Me again, and I was interested in what result just using a 50mm f1.4 lens with a reversing ring onto the camera would produce?
Thanks.

I'd love to see some images taken with the reversing ring trick if you have any to share. I have a Canon 50mm 1.4f lens and want to try it out before buying a Tamron 90mm macro which gets a great write-up.

Can anyone tell me whether the Canon 100mm macro is better than the Tamron 90mm with a dslr Canon 600D? Or, whether the Tamron 60mm macro is as good as the Tamron 90mm? I prefer a more compact lens... thinking of my shoulders!

Thanks everyone.

I also forgot to mention that the G12 is a perfect camera for big hands- like mine!- and the solid build helps keep it steady when shooting. I find it really comfortable to hold and handle. The articulating LCD is great for close ups
in awkward places and protects itself when closed. Another very useful feature which I often use is the exposure dial on the top left hand side. It makes all the difference when
taking eg a white or blue flower - just turn the dial down to get good exposure and colour.

I had the G11. Loved it so much I got the G12 when I lost it. I have a dslr too but the G12 is great for taking everywhere and I never go without it. You can start with using automatic and progress from there. Very clear, sharp images with good colour and great close ups too. It has enough mps. for cropping images and staying sharp and you can take videos as well. These days you can get a G12 in Australia for under $490. It used to be over $700. It's a great camera. All the best for your final decision!
